first impressions awesome second impressions gah!, can’t… go… on… oil… oil…oi…o…o… urrrghhh (falls over dead) oh well, i like a challenge

I’ll confess I did not read the entire list of replies - but I’m really surprised StarMade isn’t in your voxel / builder list!!

Not only is it an amazing Minecraft-esque style voxel builder, it has fairly complex crafting and logic / technology. It does things Space Engineers can’t do. Yes it’s a space oriented builder (and I’m not a spaceship fan, trust me) but there ARE planets and space stations which are way more fun to build on and create!

There’s a creative mode too.

The best part of all? It’s entirely free. FREE. How’s he do it? (Developed by one lone guy) - he lets you download the full version as ā€œDemoā€ (on Steam or independent) and then if you like it, you opt in and buy the full copy which is only 9.99 anyways …and the full copy is identical to the demo, same exact game. He’s basically giving the game away!

but thats odd… if thee full verison is slisted as a demo, what would people play the most i wonder?

It is odd and not done by any other games on Steam that I know of … so take advantage of it and try it out! I thought it was a temporary promotional thing but I believe the Demo is still up and the full version. I think the idea here is to get backers for the game voluntarily as ā€˜donations’ instead of paying for the game and having different expectations. If you have it for free and then voluntarily pay the 10 bucks, you’ve now got the feel-good that you liked the game enough to pay 10 bucks for it, which is dirt cheap anyways. It’s honestly a really great game and not in the 10 buck game category IMO, he should be asking more for it.

ok read and downloading… what it is, is free whilst alpha even though you can buy when you like to stop the price increase when the full game hits so what you pay now, will be all you ever pay (a bit like gnomoria)

the slight difference is, the full game has an updated registery and more online features like, BP hosting (whatever that is) and obviously server perks etc… so essentially the free: full game is a bug testers paradise, and mainly single player focused… but hey… a free full game??? i’m THERE bro

oh and while i’m at it, as this is a thread for other voxel games

What are your favourite? NOT counting stonehearth of course (that defeats the purpose of the question :P)

Mine; in order are:

Gnomoria
Timber and Stone
Dungeon Keeper
Planet Explorers
Stranded Deep: NOTE… not voxel, but similar crafting etc, thats why its in the list :stuck_out_tongue:
Rim World
Planetary anihalation
Banished
Terraria
Craft the World
Lanternforge
stonehearth

Why is stonehearth last? read the start of this post

Edit: i did not count minecraft… the reason… i have out played it, and it should no longer exist :stuck_out_tongue:

Cool! I think once you play it awhile (if you’re into minecraft like crafting and building but in a space setting) you will love it as much as I did and realize it’s a no-brainer to give the guy the measely 10 bucks he’s asking for the paid version which to me in single player mode were identical anyways. I mean I pay more than 10 bucks for a movie and popcorn and some of those weren’t worth the 2 hours I sat there not enjoying the movie haha. One of the really hidden gems about StarMade if you’re the explorer type like me is the ingenious way he’s done ā€˜endless universe’ … which much like Minecraft is random generated infinitely but is a massive universe with a sea of galaxies you can just keep flying towards (if you have the patience and time) with your ship and eventually explore far away systems full of millions of planets, pirate stations, empty space stations, etc. But of course, like Minecraft, you do realize after awhile that it’s just the same ones repeated over and over with the limited content he has created much like there’s a finite list of Biomes in Minecraft. But really, can’t say enough for how fun the game is on it’s own even if you steer clear of all combat and go builder mode only.

Nice list and I’ve played most on it except for Lanternforge and Planetary Annihilation and Craft the World. I was about to buy Craft the World but am still on the fence about it. I’m typically not a fan of side-scrolling games at all but it does look really interesting and I watched some pretty funny Lets Plays on it.

I want to love Gnomoria but I can’t wrap my brain around isometric voxel building very well and without free-panning of the camera (the current 90 degree swing thing is jarring for me) I get easily frustrated and find myself squinting to try and figure out what I’m doing wrong and why my poor gnomes are standing on an isolated block I messed up in ordering them to dig. If they fix it to where you use the mouse to pan camera and mouse wheel to zoom in and out, I’ll be able to play it better. I’m obviously not a machine-brain capable of handling true Dwarf Fortress style games.

damn it… looking through my friends let’s play list and he hasn’t done one on gnomoria… if you want to take this into a private chat, i can try and help you love the game?
