It seems that no matter what I do sheep never spawn in my world. At first I thought the close goblin camp was scaring all the sheep away, since those goblin chiefs seem to really love sheep. But after wiping out all the goblins still no sheep. I’m sheepless. I want some winter coats (yes i know i can buy them, but then why have a weaver).
Hmm, can you guys post screenshots of your towns? The shepherd is supposed to find sheep at the edge of the explored region–and I’m wondering what that is for you
Edith says:
I waited and waited and did not press “defend” to recall the shepard (party-member “educated worker”, hiding in the basement) … he IS walking to the edge of the map (because I do not have fog of war) and getting a sheep. Maybe you should think about another way to get sheep than to let the shepard walk to the edges
I´m going to find out what made my fog of war disappear.
@sdee: it was there, but now it´s not anymore.
I did a lot of slicing to create my minecraft like quarys. I´m trying that method with a new savegame to look if I can redroduce the fog-of-war-disappearing.
Edith says: so far no way to reproduce, I´m trying my best.
I had an issue where my shepherd continuously idled or was looking for sheep but never found any. The mapped pasture location was on a nearby hill with ladder access. Once I moved the pasture behind my dining hall in the center of town sheep began to arrive almost immediately. Before that, I waited a good long while and the shepherd either idled or looked for sheep and never got any. I waited at least 15 minutes before finally moving the pasture location.
I have a saved game with this issue (no sheep or the shepherd won’t go looking for sheep) on alpha_10_5 10 x64 if you want it. If you want it send me a message.
I had this issue too. I figured out that if the pasture was on an elevated platform accessible only by bridge (4 wide) it wasn’t triggering the Shepard to search for sheep. I had to sort of place zones let him lead them there and then remove the zones at the right time to slowly lead the sheep over the bridge into my town which then seems to cause the Shepard to trigger and collect the sheep.
So you can see I have a nice size pasture with a fence. So far I’ve tried 2 things.
removed part of the fence and added a 2nd gate. No effect on the behavior.
added a 2nd pasture on the left side of the town (on the other side of the stockpiles) This did change the shepherd behavior. Now the shepherd periodically runs off a short distance to the right of the pasture looking for animals, then stops and idles until it is time to eat. If you watch the list of hearthlings it does actually say “looking for animals”, and then “idle”. but not until a 2nd pasture has been added.
Is it possible that there is an issue if you only have one pasture?
