Zoom bug in caves

Summary:

Zooming inside caves has strange results.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Move your camera inside a mined cave.
  2. Try to move under the surface and in some corner.
  3. Look at the ground and away from the corner.
  4. Zoom out (in my case Mouse Wheel downscrolling).

Expected Results:

Actual Results:

The zooming is very slow. I guess because zooming is blocked by objects. But it keeps zooming. Then I am in the world (inside ground and don’t see textures) or I am on the surface as normal but far away from the settlement or mine. Sometimes I can’t zoom at all at this stage. It will only work again after looking around (right mouse button).

Welcome to the forum, @Pyrdacor

I’m not sure if this is intended or not. Before, we had many issues when the camera got stuck inside a mountain or trees, and it was tricky to push the camera out of them.

For the mines, you can use the slice and x-ray tools:

Thank you for the welcome and for your reply. Yes, I learned to love the slice tool. But in general I have problems with the camera movement. The worst is when neither zoom (mouse wheel) nor lookaround (right mouse) is working. The only fix then is to move with WASD. Then it works again. Moreover sometime the lookaround is way too fast. Kinda out of control. Unfortunately I can’t reproduce it. It happens from time to time. This is not only bound to caves/mines.

I have noticed this as well, when pulling out from viewing from inside a cave. I think that an adjustment to jump the camera was implemented, which if you are not expecting it will disorientate the viewer for a moment. As @Relyss said there were many issues before with the camera getting stuck, which required crazy maneuvering to get it refocused. I was confused the first time it happened but now that I expect it, I am glad it does not take as long to move the camera out.
