even more that I got, I don’t know how hard this would be but if the caravan that visits the town would actually be animated and roll in, in its gorgeous caravan state. That would be awesome, then we could actually rob it…
I though about that and found a problem that would be a caravan’s terrain passability. If you start not on the “water level” of the map, caravan couldn’t reach you. But after giving it a second thought, it could give us a tiered scheme of trade in-game.
For example - tier 1, at the start the only traders you’ll get are travelling by foot so they’re not rich, don’t have a lot of wares etc.
tier 2, after building a road to edge of the map (or other important spot like generated roads) you can get bigger caravans with mercenaries protecting them from goblins with more valueable goods.
tier 3, you could designate a trade zone/market place (like in Dwarf Fortress) to make your town even more - trade prepared/oriented and that would bring even better or more unique traders.
Also, one more thing could change your trading quality - inns, because traders need a place to stay for the time they are trading with your town. The better the inns, the better the trade.
There could even be elven traders, dwarven traders etc coming to your town.
excellent idea! I would love to see that implemented but to solve the caravan it could come out of the fog of war and go on paths/trails you made, or they could create their own…
1-Auto clear building site and forbid placing items on site during construction.
2-Have two commands: harvest and clear.
3-wells and canals for drinking and irrigation
Great progress so far!
Another suggestion I’ve thought about:
Since we are having mining being worked on, it would be nice to have basement tool during planning a house.
Basement planning is an interesting idea! I wouldn’t have thought of it… definitely a must-have now that you mention it, though.
This is of course opinion and I am not saying any of this is not already in plans however after a couple of days of playing here is a list of issues that seem more important to game play then others.

There needs to be a stockpile option for just promotion items. This is my number one priority because I have found no work a rounds. Their is currently no way to get the town folk to move them and if they are not in a stockpile the current trader mechanic does not register them so I make them for a trade the trade fails and I have random promotion items in my town I don’t want to use and can’t get move.
-
If you harvest something and then the town folk run off to lunch or sleep the don’t go back to collect the materials. So if you cut trees down away from your town/camp you have to make a stock pile trail and then have them harvest something near by to then get them to move every thing to the furthest stock pile. Clear that stock pile and then have them move every thing to the next closest after that repeating harvest and stock pile removal until close enough to your camp for them to move it to permanent stock piles. A gather materials zone that auto deletes when empty would be nice.

Fences don’t got into the “defense” construction stockpiles as they should and get left every where. They also don’t register when going to the “place an item” menu and villagers don’t recognize them to deliver to the far off placement locations for a long time if ever. This is more important with fences than other items because your defense perimeter is most likely the furthest thing from your main village other then areas where you are gathering materials out of town so it makes it the hardest to get workers to react to it and it is the most vital to protection. Also with that my fence gates don’t open or the villagers don’t path find through them, so I moved them out a little and left holes in the fence to let them in and out until that is fixed then I will just move them where the should be. That is not as big a deal since they only make a small part of my defense and they still bottle neck goblins into my patrolling guards who usually respond and meet them at the gates.

Altering or removing buildings after the fact. I have built a few buildings with minor errors or improvements I want to make but I can’t seem to find a way to put in interior walls and doors after a building is done. Nor can I remove windows and doors and move them to a new location. Not the most elegant solution but workable, I also can not demolish a building and rebuild it from scratch.
-
Sometimes villagers get trapped inside a building during construction with out wood and I can’t get them out so… they starve to death.
-
I lost my trapper to an armed goblin ambush and now I can’t get a new one because the knife was out side my town and not recognized then despawned.
-
Combat control of some kind. Apparently if you have your town well defended in a hard to reach area you don’t get goblin intruders and more because they can not path find to you… They do however stockpile up out side your base and when you send some out to cut down a tree you end up with 20 goblins or more coming at your down at once, not only that but if you sound the all alarm for battle the on villager in the open will stand and fight and of course die, it you don’t he will run wild in fear possibly not to town defenses, get hunted down surrounded and die. So I end up sounding the alarm but it turns out all my swords men are patrolling the exact opposite side of my base and only really show up when everyone else is dead. Ya the 3 of them they take out all the goblins but they don’t do anything but patrol so I have drop them to workers and start over. Then I run into the same thing later. What would be awesome is if I had an alert soldier defense button that would send all my soldiers to the fight and everyone else to find cover in my town. Maybe they could also make it so that villagers with higher bravery would get a speed boost running to combat or would retreat to town more reliably and low bravery would get a boost running away from combat with a chance to cower in fear or run fast in a random direction that… might not be towards town out of panic.
Some minor things.

If a villager is scared while eating berries they will drop the plate and since it is not a standard item like the rest of the food villagers don’t seem to recognize it and eat it or place it in food stockpiles. So it just sits there forever.
-
If you can’t place an item some where it doesn’t mark it red it just raises it up some where it can so I have ended up with floating fences like Generikb’s beds on the roof and the villagers don’t know how to respond and I can’t get them to move them. So they will just be floating until there is a patch to fix it or I can figure out some way to get it down… I guess I could build a floor under it but then I can’t get rid of the floor so its just a trade off not a cure.
-
The villagers always use the same bed so its hard to upgrade them until we get the “put back in stock pile” button they showed on a recent update video, but to add to that when you add a new bed there is no way to choose who will go to what bed. I know actually assigning them might not fit with the game play style of this game since in part its about controlling the grand plan and letting the villagers micro manage them selves but if I put a carpenter’s or a weavers work bench in a house and add a bed it would be nice if they would automatically switch to a bed in that house. I wanted to find a way to make a barracks for my guards but I guess I just have to find the beds they sleep in and move them for now.

Purely for visual design purposes, I would like interior walls that can have doors placed in them so I can give villagers separate rooms. Windows could be useful if you could pass things through them but mostly doors are the only things that matter for bedrooms and storage rooms.
-
Internal lights that come on when it gets dark but go out while the villagers sleep.
I know these will all be fixed in up coming patches, I get that this is alpha not beta, and I am pretty sure the developers are aware of most of these issues since I have seen them in Generikb’s and PaulSoaresJr’s Lets play videos but I figured the that it was worth mentioning here in writing and please ignore or add as needed. I should also say that for a game in alpha, it is already very playable short the few stumbling blocks above. This is better than I have seen with a lot of large gaming companies. If this is any indication of the quality of the team and work we can expect from Radiant Entertainment I look for to great and numerous things from them in the future. Keep up the good work!
Also I just had a bug corrupt my save on over write, for anyone dumb as me to only have 1 save for an alpha build I recommend at least 2 and leap frogging them. I just lost my town after 23 hours of play time and I had almost managed to “complete” my first apha 5 town. Woohoo I get to do it again!!
Some nice ideas (and bugs that need fixing
) there - probably belongs in the Alpha 6 wishlist thread though:
So here is my question! What would you like to see in StoneHearth??? Honestly this game has endless possibilities! I read your Threads and I imagine it all! My brain explodes reading and imagining all of the things we can do with StoneHearth all the things that Team Radiant can do!! This game is amazing! With lots of love this game could go really far!!
Team Radiant; Thank you for such an amazing game! You guys are doing a tremendous job!! Keep up the amazing work!!
That post comes across as so breathlessly excited
.
To be brief, more Dwarf Fortress-y elements. Not saying it has to be carrying babies into battle, but there’s a lot of other really nice stuff in that game that ought to be elsewhere, where more people can appreciate it
.
Personally I especially enjoy the characters. The description, preferences, and emotions add some awesome flavour. While the insane health system adds hours of complexity and gorey/morbid fun.
I think pillars or columns would be a nice add to the game building wise. It would be cool to make a 2 layered house with the pillars on the bottom supporting a second floor. You could also use them to make temple like buildings where statues can be placed and blah blah.
Interior walls and planning would be great! I assume this would tie in with a feature like roads, but the ability to change the flooring would be nice. Say instead of grass texture you have dirt in some places, or paved bricks, etc, but not necessarily a road. As MajorFordson said, buildings just sit on plain grass. With the ability to “paint” the terrain, we would be able to have that, or add some dirt/pavement around a building. This could be as simple as just a texture swap for selected areas.
I’m pretty sure this was suggested or hinted at before but some more defensively capable doors would be nice, for evading goblins and such for people who would rather play defensively. Currently everything walks through as if it didn’t exist and was just an opening. Of course they shouldn’t be completely invulnerable to everything (especially tougher enemies). Without a doubt it would be more expensive to create but without the ability to lock or barricade, doors are really nothing but decor. This would probably also relate to better building materials ie. stone that would be more resistant to certain future features such as fires (I’m also hoping the blueprint would be saved in the way that workers would repair damages themselves with fresh resources, when the building is damaged).
Someone else suggested making buildings with a dedicated purpose, such as markets for the traders/caravans, and I think this is great. A shelter would be great too, tying in with the above suggestion of defensive structures. Another thread had the suggestion of rallying villagers to a location for defensive purposes and this would be a possible location in event of a large scale attack. Seeing as gold is being implemented, a location, such as some hall or even a pub, to hire more workers temporarily for building would be pretty useful, since apparently many of the jobs don’t like to help build.
A more compact storage solution than stockpiles would be great as well, such as chests. Stockpiles are nice in some applications, but they can become unsightly especially for things like food items. Maybe a form of vertical storage like shelves?
Probably being one in a million here with just ideas and nothing tangible to contribute
… usually don’t do this but this the potential for this game is too much!
Edge Scrolling with the mouse pointer - So I don’t have to use the keyboard to move the camera forward/backward/left/right.
When Gob’s attack and you have your people battle ready, would be nice to click in the area to direct them to that area for battle. Or a drag feature: to highlight a few and force them to specific area’s (or have both).
Or even just a porch. I also like the idea of putting the Blacksmith, weaver, and carpenter out side on a roofed area of sort and building above them. though it maybe possible to put a floor and add wall segments then put a roof on it. You can not however attach a house or storage room to that because of the 2 block out requirement for scaffolding.
