EXPERIENCE

I went into this play session with the expectation and desire to take on the titan. I prepared ahead of time having 2 squads of 6 hearthlings. Decked out in the BEST gear including the legendary artifacts. A heavy reliance on archers.

Lead up and introduction:
The recurring theme of gongs was a nice touch. Directions and warnings made sense and I didn’t have any trouble figuring out what I needed to do to summon the titan battle.

Intro animation of the titan was pretty great, the laugh sealed it for me.

The Battle:
I loved the unique feel of how the battle played out. I found myself zipping all over the map trying to dig down to seeds, save my hearthlings from tentacles, keep invaders out while destroying the portals, and frantically trying to get my banner inside so the evil wave wouldn’t hit all of my villagers at least.

The corrupted were pretty beastly. At one point I underestimated them and paid the price of losing my best equipped footman during the first skirmish. (Those mages hit HARD). I quickly found myself wishing I had one more small squad to control full of dedicated fire archers as ranged seemed to win the day for the most part and 2 squads were barely enough to tackle both offense and defense. At one point I had 4 of my soldiers on bedrest… got a bit hectic there.

Oh and at a few points, I had kobolds storming my town as well, that really got out of hand, but they didn’t feel so bad after fighting the corrupted.

Tentacles! And Storms
Another reason I wished for a 3rd squad… when one of these tentacles would randomly snag a hearthling or threaten a house in the middle of a big skirmish, i’d be forced to either leave one squad without backup or hope i could finish the fight and reach the tentacle before things got bad (RIP engineer :frowning: )

The Storms are just cool to watch. And once you remember to put your banners indoors, they mostly become a delay tactic while i’m in the middle of trying to dig out seeds. It becomes dangerous if the corrupted attack your town right as the storm hits.

These were the best connection I felt to the actual titan. They felt like extensions of it reaching out to strike at the town.

Crops
I didn’t even notice this. In fact it was a relief when this popped up because I didn’t have to worry about it.

The Ending
I didn’t realize i’d beaten the titan until the camera suddenly shifted (then proceeded to bug out as detailed below). It just kinda happened and then was over. I still felt accomplished, but it snuck up on me. Reward was pretty dang cool, but I think it needed something else to keep around.

All in all, the battle was hectic, fun, DIFFERENT! and I enjoyed every bit of it.

FEEDBACK

Mining: Mining got pretty ugly pretty quick. Not necessarily a bad thing in a panicked state to dig down to these seeds, but i’d kill for a stair mining tool

Titan Disconnect: As stated above, when the tentacle appeared or the storm was coming was the most connected I felt to this big baddy. The occasional grunt/laugh was nice, but maybe give me some monologue or perhaps a small ‘corrupted’ version of the titan guards each portal.

Titan Panic: If the battle gets faster and more hectic the closer the titan gets to defeat, I couldn’t notice it. A flashing health bar accompanied by multiple storms/tentacles and declaration of “You CANNOT stop me!” would be a great way to encourage the player that they’ve almost done it! Just push through the last bit!

Reward: The Orc is great, i was super happy with that, but some sort of decorative relic (possibly buffed) that you can place in your town would be a great way to easily see that “You did it!”

BUGS!

Game Crash/Music Breaks: Halfway through the fight, my game crashed to desktop. Upon loading up an autosave, the music had reverted away from the titan soundtrack and back to the normal Stonehearth happy songs… really killed the ambiance. Ha.

Camera: After defeating the Titan i was looking forward to seeing him vanish into the ether! Instead my camera glitched and i got to see this…

The camera froze here through the fireworks, dialogue, orc arrival I was stuck in this view at this location. I could quickly zoom to a hearthling, but it would snap me back to this view.

Reloading solved the problem.

All said and done, I really enjoyed this new experience! Great atmosphere and fun mechanics! Well done.

Thanks so much for the detailed feedback and screenshots! Glad you got to take it on and that you succeeded, unlike Angelo and myself. Passing the account and bugs on to the rest of the team
