So i recently noticed that my food stockhold is massive as hearthlings only consume 1 block per meal, I read someone on this forum suggested that the villagers consume more than 1 food at a time and should randomly consume 3 - 5 foods to lower the food stockhold and will make the requirements to gain new hearthling in the village more realistic.
My suggestion is this, if a hearthling consumes a lot of food over a few days then this will affect the weight of the hearthling affecting what jobs it can do and its performance in jobs. E.g, if a overweight hearthling becomes a soldier he will perform slower than the rest however they can take up more damage.
the food problem is being addressed next patch… food will be able to rot/spoil and go bad meaning youll need more food in your storage than you need to feed people in case some of it goes bad.
Well it’s more to combat how easy it is to overproduce food. I can easily upkeep 10 11x11 farm plots with two farmers. That equates to a lot of food (and silkweed 'n flowers) being produced. Heck, by day 5 I converted most to corn and silkweed just to slow down production.
I understand the feeling xD it feels like the food requirements to gain a new villager are wrong. i believe that if the hearthling were to consumer more then it would sort the overproduction. another solution to this is when the cook class is released, make each dish require quite a few ingredients to make, therefore, it will use up more food in your stockhold. or solution 3, when you have met the requirements needed to gain a new hearthling, deduct half of the food within your stockpile to control overproduction once the hearthling has joined the village
