Slave to Armok: God of Blood: Dwarf Fortress

No no no… You want to command a small group of dwarves to build a civilization… you want to…

A Dwarf Fortress thread that doesn’t link to Boatmurdered? I’m shocked!

Also by the same people: Headshoots. And from another from I used to post on, bask in the glory that is Roadtruss.

Note: first two links contain some strong language. Worth it though IMHO :stuck_out_tongue: .

Emmm @Teleros, how did that dude in your last link make that isometric view of the game?? Do you know how to do it? It looks sooo good

There are a few visualizer programs that allow you to see your fort in either full 3d or isometric.

Phhft, such pathetic viewing programs are for n00bz. Play Dwarf Fortress the real way, then, you’ll earn my respect.

Strike the Earth!

(That felt oddly appropriate)

xDD i just wanted to use them to make images… i started to play the game with the newbz pack and then once i understood a little bit how the game works, i tried the “normal” game without any helps, nor visual or external… I couldn’t play more than a few hours with that version xD; i’m so used to the newbz graphics pack that the other looks too ugly for me :(, sry, but not everyone it’s made to play with pseudo-ASCII

I get what you mean. When I downloaded Minecraft, I played in the normal texture mode, and then downloaded a way better resource pack. When I switched back, I just couldn’t handle it. In order to look like a pro in DF (By understanding all the ASCII codes), I won’t use any reskins.

Anyone know where to get a download of this “Noob Pack” Also can I have a list of mods with links that I should download? Keep in mind that these mods need to work for Mac or Windows 8.

There’s diferent lazy newb packs, one for MAC: [0.34.10/11][v0.6.(5) Cyan] MacNewbie Pack - for Mac beginners (see the FAQ!)

and this is for windows: PeridexisErrant's DF Starter Pack both of them contain various tools like Dwarf Therapist, and some other graphic textures… If you see the first video of Quill18, it will help you to set those up to play properly…

All of this guessing that the UI for MAC version it’s like the Windows Version, and that the Windows version works fine for W8…

Hope this helps you!! Greetings!

It does! THANK YOU!!!

Why do you always say Greetings at the END of your posts?

In Spanish i use to finish my posts with “un saludo!”, it’s like, ey! i’ve been here, i’ve tried to help, and now i’ve to go somewhere else, but it has been nice to write this and if you’ve read through all my long wall text (i use to write walls texts in every forum xD), i feel i have to say something like… bye, but it’s not a bye in spanish; and ithe equivalent in english that i’ve found it’s “Greetings”… but i think that it’s used only as a way to say Hi, not goodbye in a very friendly way… mmmmmmm languages are haaaaard (except for programming, that’s easier than english xD)

That’s because programming languages tend to be very logical, whereas English… um. Let’s just say English is a lot more democratic. Yes…

I think it’s mentioned in the thread somewhere, but I think it’s based on a saved game file, so you can’t play like that, just take pretty pictures.

And like that all my hopes go up in flames.

Well, it’s always possible I’m wrong, I don’t play DF myself. I think of it like EVE Online - great stories, but dangerous to get into :stuck_out_tongue: .

If you DO want an isometric DF-y game though, try Gnomoria, available on Steam. Personally though, I’m waiting on Stonehearth & Clockwork Empires (read: 3D steampunk Victorian era version of DF).

From what I heard Gnomoria is still in alpha and from what I have seen it looks like it would not have all the great capabilities that DF has.

I will check this out!

Took a look at clockwork empire and realized that I had seen it before and didn’t like the look of it. Mainly because the mines where just buildings you plopped down and waited for resources to come out. Not what I am looking for.

Yeah, it’s not a clone of Dwarf Fortress, but by the look of it the gameplay will be very similar, just above-ground and with more of a learning curve rather than learning cliff.

Gnomoria… yeah, basically you’re right. Still, I don’t think that makes it a bad game per se.

A clone is kind of what I am looking for, Basically I want to have all these amazing tales of what has happened to people playing DF but the problem is that I do not have the time nor the patience (Especially not the patience) to learn how to play DF. (I am also not very good at strategies like chess (especially chess) to begin with.

Course not, I have not heard that its a bad game. The problem is that it is an unfinished game

I haven’t played Gnomoria in a while, but there is still a lot of content in the game, it’s not quite on the level of DF but it’s still incredibly fun!

Now your tempting me…I shall look at some Reviews and playthroughs first.
