Size of your village

Hello there,

Me again with another great ( ) question. After getting a really great number of villagers, i noticed that there appears to be a limit as to how far away from you original starting your villagers will build a house. It could just be me (off course) but if there is a limit to the size of a village (seems logical to prefend huge loads) what would that be? How would one change it? Will this also affect the distance from starting point from where hostile creatures spawn like wolves and goblins?

What’s the size of your village? I limited my villagers to 24 and didn’t notice anything like that, but I guess that’s not a “really great number”. Maybe it’s just a bug or somehow fails to compute, as I don’t think they would restrain building for performance reasons yet.

well its just that i like to build big and open and the villagers stopped going to the outer buildings. I had about 30 of them. Did have trouble with goblins spawning between those build though. I’m doing a peacefull map now to try and figure out if that was the issue back then

Could be a pathfinding error?

i don’t understand the question/problem.
Maybye a screenshot (or more) with your village and some nodes can help understanding the situation. Its better to make problems visible.

Do you check some of this?!

  1. Ressources avaible? (Like Clay, Stone, Wood, etc.)
  2. Not to far away from your Campfire? 1000 Blocks are possible when i understand it right with one of the last patches.
  3. Have u moved your Campfire and/or the Stockpile so close as possible to the Buildings that they should to build? (Can take some Time after they placed the Campfire to start then the Buildings.

In my Town i moved across my hole map with the Campfire to build something. because as you seen on the Pics in my Threat the buildings are set all over the map.

Fortunately, in Alpha 15 there are improvements to pathfinding (among other things) that will greatly improve your ability to build more broadly on your map. One technique you might want to use in the meantime is to load up a crate with the needed materials for your new building and then move it out to where you want to start construction. (If it’s really far away from your town center you may need to do this in a couple of stages.) That immediate presence of building materials will keep your hearthlings from having to wander all over the map (and perhaps forget about their building task).

I have a game that we sometimes use for testing purposes – it’s now up to 52 hearthlings and is spread out over almost the entire map… and it’s running fine on a laptop with our latest Alpha 15 development build. So you have something to look forward to!
