Building a road requires to design a ‘house’.
Why not seperate those two. One button for roads, another button for buildings?
They used to be separate, until @Tom decided to get all fancy with the new building UI. It’s probably going to stay the way it is, but who knows? If enough people ask for it to be separated, I’m sure Radiant will accommodate!
Speaking of other people asking for it, I’m sure I’ve seen this mentioned before… but I can’t seem to find it.
I believe the whole idea was to place everything building related into one place, I personally don’t have a issue of it being placed where it is, To me at least it makes sense to be there.
But just out of curiosity, Why do you think they should be separated?
I think they should be separated not due to any UI concern but rather, I think roads shouldn’t be highlightable as buildings. It highlights the gaps between road sections built at different times and makes everything seem a lot messier, and in general infrastructure shouldn’t be something you’re looking directly at most of the time. Having them rolled into the regular building tool if they behave differently makes everything less clear.
Honestly I’d really like a separate road tool that just let you define gutters (elevated or no, width, different material) which are automatically placed around all road sections you place, and gutters are automatically removed when you place adjacent roads so they join properly. Having to actually plan all my roads is a pain.
