Question on a game option

I guess I missed a post somewhere or a dev video, but what does the option in the gameplay section of the game options “storage filter” do exactly?

whenever you place a crate/stockpile it automatically ticks the “none” checkbox,

so that way you can decide what you want in the stockpiles before they start putting stuff in them.

normally the “all” checkbox is ticked.

does that help/make sense?
