Qubicle Competition Time frame

So, I was laying there last night, about to fall asleep and then I realised something.

If we separate the submission and voting into separate weeks then we actually extend each cycle to 6 weeks.

The reason for this is that we obviously can’t run the final, without all the finalists which means that week 4 couldn’t start until the voting for week 3 had ended - this would be at the start of model submission for the next cycle. Voting for the finals would then end at week 2 of the next cycle.

So yer, there’s that to think about.

… my personal feeling is that a bit longer cycles are not bad at all. Maybe more time between the cycles motivates some additional people to join the competition.

We could have 6 week cycles … that would address the issues I just put out.

Combine this with the theme schedule and that should give people more than enough time to produce submissions.

With the pre-announced schedules its pretty easy to take part for us “combatants”, so getting people to vote is maybe the area that should receive more focus.

Already I can work on 4 stories for cycle two of the writing competition and even if I would not make it to the finals the second cycle I can always submit my finals piece just as fan media and get feedback that way.

So… how to get people to vote more

Just wanted to revisit this and see if people’s opinions had changed in any way?

We’ve had a pretty good couple of weeks in terms of submissions and votes, and I do still worry that a 6 week cycle will slow interest a bit …

Honestly, I think the Qubicle competition’s fine, and such a broad topic of Food I think was actually really good so that people think “I could do a little something for that!” even if they’ve never modelled before. However, I know this thread says Qubicle but I don’t think there’s one for the writing…now there we have problems…

@SteveAdamo , it appears @Smokestacks is questioning your supremeness, shall we arrange the execution?

On a serious note - we should probably create a feedback thread for people to talk about the writing competition.

aye… i think the intent (at least, in my head) was to use the Rules and Information thread to house discussions like this…

i’ve recently gone back and done a little updating to the original post, linking to the theme bank, adjusting some of the rules, etc.

but by all means, @Smokestacks, tear the contest apart in there, and let us know what you think/recommend… i’ll just be in the corner, rocking back and forth in the fetal position…
