Placing Dirt mod request

Is there any chance while waiting for the developers to implement this feature that some modders can add the ability to place dirt? I know it might be a long shot but I really want to be able to control more fully where my farmers, trappers and shepherds.

Mod:
Dirt is a resource
Place dirt/grass
Are able to farm, trap, etc on placed dirt
Able to buy dirt from merchants

There’s a mod for blocks that look like dirt (and grass), but until dirt placing is in game it will probably be hard to make blocks actually act like dirt.
