Performance issues from Alpha 9 to 13

I heart this game, but as soon as my village starts getting good (~5 buildings, ~8 people) the game slowly begins to slow to a crawl and becomes unplayable.

I’ve had the same issue more or less since ~Alpha 9. Every release I hope it will get better but it doesn’t…

My pc specs are pretty good (I think?):

  • I5-3570K
  • 20gb Ram
  • Windows 10, DX12
  • GeForce GTX 970

In alpha 13 it looks like “high filtered cb” is hogging all the resources?

I saw in another thread that posting a save file where this is occurring might help.

Can’t upload files yet. Hopefully this will work

the most issues are because of windows 10 … its unstable and to new

perhaps this can helps you: Updated to Windows 10 broke your game? Use Compatibility mode. :: Stonehearth General Discussions

Not always @Wiese2007. I know of people playing in Windows 10 (myself included) and we don’t even use the compatibility mode, and it runs perfectly.

It might be something else. People with good computers are having crashes or lags at certain times too.

Had the same issues in win 7 unfortunately, only upgraded in the last 60 days.

I had issues because x64 wouldn’t detect my graphics card. So maybe try x32?

Thanks @jomaxro, lets try this again:

Try x32 windows 10? or is there a x32 version of Stonehearth?

I don’t really want to re-install windows… Windows 10 x64 is detecting my card no problem, drivers up to date and all other games run on Ultra settings.

Will try in Windows 8 and 7 compatibility mode, will let you know. Thanks

No, no, not Windows, Stonehearth! No need to reinstall your operating system ! When you launch the game, in Settings you should be able to tell Stonehearth to run in 32 bit mode. Then, restart the game, and see if the lag stops.

Phew! Okay, I’ll try that too - thanks!

Okay, tried the game in Windows 7 mode with 32 bit forced in-game. (although it still says x64 in the top left while playing) No difference in performance.

Correction: I have 13 hearthlings in this current save file, not 8

I did have some mining paths queued which I read could be a factor so i removed all but 1.

Update: The performance is actually a “little” better. If before I was chugging at 5x slower than real-time, now it’s 4x slower than real-time.

Here is a save game where I’ve removed the extra mining paths just in case that’s suspected to be a factor:

Thank you,

Update: I am going to delete the game and try a re-install.

If it still said x64 at the top, then something is not right. Did you restart (close the game and reopen from Steam) the game after toggling the setting? It should say release-489 (x32) at the top.

Performance is MUCH better at the moment under x32. (confirmed in top left)

However, now I’m getting hard crashes where the game shuts down which never happened before…

You’re likely seeing the hard crashes as the game is running out of memory. Not much I can suggest at the moment…
