Game lag / staggering when you have gone off screen

Summary:
Often when you navigate away from the game to a second monitor or application (e.g. when making a bug report  ) when you return to the game you experience bad lag / staggering. This forces a painful process of slow clicking to save the game and reboot the game.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Play game in windowed mode
  2. Navigate to another monitor to access an alternate application (in this case it was Chrome)
  3. Return to game and witness bad lag / staggering. However it does not always happen but it has happened approx once an hour today over a five hour period.

System Information:
Windows 10

Strange, this never happened to me. Could you maybe include more information about your system and which version you are using?

Here’s the system data. Using Release 687 (x64). I will see if I can get more diagnostic information for you.

Despite some extensive testing this afternoon I have not been able to reproduce. :frowning: I suggest we park this issue until I am able to provide better support evidence.

Mine lags too sometimes…

I encountered the lag / staggering again today. It occurred when I went off screen to restart the Battlenet client after a recent update.

I had the Task Manager / Performance monitor up and running in the event i hit the lag / staggering isssue. See screen shot. Though high the CPu/Memory did not seem to be maxed so I’m not sure this is the cause of the issue.

I had taken some measurements overtime proceeding the event:

08:56 Stonehearth memory usage 2,223 + 189 (one for each Stonehearth process)
09:12 2917 + 468
09:29 3,259 + 693
09:39 3,580 + 737
10:14 3,643 + 815
and then the event in the screenshot. I will keep trying to find a repeatable trigger for this event.

OK I have narrowed it down to a drop in FPS. See screenshots that display the FPS count. Normally averaging 60 FPS + but sometimes when you go off screen and come back the FPS drops to 1-2 FPS.

Resetting the Graphical settings at this point to their lowest settings increases FPS to about 5,. I have tried lowering and then re-raising the settings to see if it ‘jump starts’ the FPS. But no avail. Once you get 1-2 FPS you have to restart the game. I’ll continue to look to see if I can spot what is causing the sudden drop in FPS.
