I was playing around with @Froggy cook mod and an idea came to me. What if we have temporary food buffs? Food satisfaction doesn’t seem to do much right now and permanent buffs makes hearthlings unreasonably OP over time. The buff will last from when they eat the food till when they go to sleep ~12h (or can have variable lengths as well).
Using Froggy’s mod, some examples of buffs would be:
Meat Pie + 1 Def
Meat & Potato Pie + 2 Def
Stew + 1 Attack
Pumpkin Pie +5% Speed
To take this to the next level, add debuffs to offset buffs. Like alcohol -5% speed, -2 Def, +10 Attack.
I can’t help but imagine the one hearthling that drinks the coffee and starts zipping around town with a +20% speed caffeine high, but can’t sleep and becomes groggy and useless the next day.
Unless, of course, you feed him coffee again, therefore creating an addiction… I do like the idea of having more incentives to cook more expensive/complicated food. It really fits into SH’s theme of “going the extra mile for more profit”.
I love the idea of hearthling personalities. Some might really like to eat and always end up with a speed debuff. Others might love caffeine, but when there is none left they get cranky and useless. Imagine all of the emergent possibilities when you develop things like personalities, addictions, etc.
“It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning. It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.”
Well, this has now been implemented in the latest version of CAFE. While I would love to take all the credit, it really belongs to @RepeatPan who was equally as ethralled as I, and wrote the observer for me. (+1 Legendary)
I’m plodding through creating buffs and once they are complete I will publish the update. Probably some time today.
I am all for anything which adds variety to the Hearthlings lifestyle and gives more individuality and choice. Stats alone should not determine who is best for what job in your village and personality quirks would be fun along with ways to buff those quirks or even debuff (overeating / sleeping!). Timber and Stone has personality traits which can add hindrance (lazy or overeater) or add benefit to your citizens (courageous / hardworker / fast learner).
