Perhaps in the future, when/if we have dungeons, there could be more ways to exploit them besides just “send some combat classes in to clear the dungeon”? For example, you set up a town near a dungeon. After a certain amount of time, an event like this will happen:
"A group of adventurers have come by town! Provide them with services?"
Player says yes: It will cost some food and bedding, but the adventurers, depending on how their stay was, will reward you in one way or another, whether it be loot, gold, or something else.
Player says no: The adventurers will be mildly upset, and they’ll set up camp near your town.
If you have an inn or some similar service, they’ll just pay the inn’s gold fee and that’s it, and you won’t have any yes/no option.(Maybe I should do a topic on inn management.)
The next morning, if the player said no, the adventurers will head straight for the dungeon. If the player said yes, then this message will appear.
“Welp, we’re off for the dungeon. See ya!”
-(Name of adventurer.)
Possible outcomes:
- Inspiration (Bad-ish): One of your combat hearthlings decides the adventurers life is for him, and follows the adventurers to the dungeon.
- Ultimate death(Good): All the adventurers die in combat, and you can send a group of hearthlings into the dungeon to take their stuff.
- Failure-ish(Neutral): None of the adventurers die, and they return to town instead to spend some more nights. A branch similar to the previous one plays out.
- Vengeance (Neutral): Some of the adventurers die. The survivors stay in town for a bit, vow revenge on the dungeon, and leave to train. (Note: they will eventually return)
- Retirement (Good): One or two of the adventurers survive, and decide the adventurers life is not for them. They will request to join your town instead. It’ll take them a while to get settled down. (Note, that adventurers can be really exotic classes!)
- Dungeon cleared! (Ehhh…): The adventurers clear the dungeon. They give you some of the booty, and leave. This means you can no longer have this situation play out! Thankfully it’s a rare event. Some events can branch off of this, like adventurers who came for the dungeon but were too late.
However, this play style is not entirely gold and glory! Marauding monsters and similar events can play out, so you have to have an extra-strong militia if you wish to play your town like this!
Tell me what you guys think, and I’ll see ya later!
