Dev Streams and Desktop Tuesday

Good evening everyone,

I just wanted to say thank you to Team Radiant for all of the Dev Streams and Desktop Tuesdays…they really are a treat to come home to and watch after I get off work, and have been a part of my regular weekly schedule for a long time. I know you guys put in a lot of time and effort to do both and I just wanted to show my appreciation. I think it’s really awesome that you allow us the privilege of watching you make Stonehearth.

I agree! I always enjoy the streams, and while I cannot always be there in person (particularly the Wed morning stream), I make it a point to watch it later.

While we are on the topic of Desktop Tuesdays, I am curious to hear what the community thinks about the switch from mostly text based to mostly video based. Personally, I liked the older version of Desktop Tuesdays a lot more than I do the videos. Don’t misunderstand me, the videos are well done, and convey the information just fine, but I liked the detailed posts about AI, Pathfinding, and Debugging a lot more. Some Desktop Tuesdays really lend themselves well to a video, especially when talking about new gameplay, as it gives TR an opportunity to demonstrate it. However, I would love to get see some of the amazingly detailed and informative DTs again. Thoughts?

I basically never get to see any of the Dev Streams live because of my work schedule, but occasionally I’ll make it home in time to say bye to whoever is streaming.

As for Desktop Tuesday posts, I think it really depends on the content. This week’s DT was picture heavy, so I’d say it was definitely more video friendly. I definitely agree more detailed or technically minded DT’s should be in the old format of text. I really enjoy both formats, but I’m a sucker for reading so I’d probably lean slightly towards text and pictures.

I love the dev streams as well! I watch whenever I can and I’m working through the archive! :joy: As for DT’s, I prefer text but I also enjoy the videos, really I prefer a good mix of both.

The streams are great and alone are worth what I invested during the kickstarter. I personally would like some more coding and less modelling though.
As for the Desktop Tuesdays, more detailed posts like the ones about AI, Pathfinding, Debugging, etc. would be great!

well the wednseday morning streams are for you then! they start at 8:30 AM (PST) and are generally focused more on coding/debugging.

Yeah, I know, I watched all of them. I’m just saying that I would like even more coding. So, coding twice a week and modelling once

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! We love having all these chances to connect with you too. One of the real terrors of striking it out on our own was honestly the fear that we’d be alone on the journey and that we’d have no help or feedback or even anyone who understood what we were trying to do, why it was hard, or why it was cool and worth celebrating. I can happily say that thanks to you all, that has never been the case; coming to the forums is like coming home to family we didn’t even know we had.

I’m a KS backer and a long time lurker here but I just registered on the Discourse forums just to say that I love the streams though, being from Europe and with my schedule I never get to see them live.

Unfortunately I try to see them on past broadcasts on Twitch before they get deleted but I don’t always can so there’s a lot of them I’ll never get to see. I’d love if they were all uploaded to Youtube where they’d be there “forever” (there’s only a few of them there). Another nice feature of youtube is that you can stop seeing the video at any point and next time you can start from where you left it.

I’m on the other side of the spectrum from @Kiwifed0r though. Being an illustrator myself instead of a coder I’d like even more modelling  (I also like the coding, even when sometimes I don’t understand a thing of what you’re talking about).

As per the Desktop Tuesdays, I also liked the written, more detailed ones though for more “graphical” DT’s are fine, even best, on video format.

Hmm… I may not catch the streams all the time, but at least recently at least I do. I rather enjoy what is presented no matter what is decided to be done.

The desktop tuesday I kind of look at like a progress or special weekly interest update. As in what ever yall want to show specifically or point out for the week. I like the variety in which has been so far. Some being code descriptive and some pic and video heavy. A balance between the two.

Regardless I always enjoy reading and watching the desktop tuesday, as it usually gives insight on something or other of what was worked on or as above mentioned what you feel the need to present. Always heartlifting.

I know TR has been making sure to archive the “important” streams, let me see if it is possible for them to upload all of them to YouTube, for both the reasons you mentioned. BTW, welcome to the Discourse!

Thanks!

I can see the most “important” streams are marked as highlights so they’ll stay “forever” but I enjoy all of them

Youtube would have another added advantage because it would attract the more casual viewers and people that don’t know about stonehearth yet, or those that are interested in how a game is done. But I’m selfish here, I just want to be able to see ALL of the streams

I know uploading them to youtube is a bit more work that “just” doing them on Twitch, so thanks for looking into the possibility, appreciated.

That’s not really helping my case :frowning:  But yeah, I guess that some people prefer coding and others prefer modelling. The best solution would be to just stream all development, 24/7

If you need the Stream 100 in full lengh i have saved it because twitch often doesn’t save it correct

Yeah, they definitely should take turns and stream 24/7/365 coding, modeling and concept. Everybody gets what they want

Of course, they should upload all that to YT too to flood the internets with Stonehearth.
