[Dev Blog]Desktop Tuesday: Alpha 22.5 Updates

(Image Linked)

Hey everyone, welcome to another Stonehearth Desktop Tuesday! In the spirit of brief updates between chunkier updates we’re ready to share, let me show you what’s new in our latest release to Steam, Alpha 22.5!!

Don’t forget! Europe stream tomorrow, Wednesday 8/9 at 8:30am PST. It’s me and Justin, so bring questions/comments about tech/product direction/whatever you want.

Also, @morgan10e, welcome back to Team Stonehearth

Welcome back @morgan10e ! Happy to see you back on the team.

Well, since I’m not doing anything next morning, I guess I might as well drop in for the stream tomorrow. Is this in place of or in addition to the normal Thursday streams?

@Brackhar stated he’d talk to you about sharing where the game’s going and what the end goal will be. Would this stream be the time to talk about that or were y’all thinking of covering that at another time?

I wouls assume that means they’re doing both tomorrow and Thursday.

Indeed! Justin and I stream tomorrow, and Malley streams on Thursday.

I can talk about this tomorrow, but only at a high level. Basically: we have a set of goals and a strategy, but details may change based on whether or not we’re tracking to our goals.

That LUA console!!!

Seriously, it’s an absolute stand-out for me. Being able to effectively mod the game while it’s running will make it heaps easier to test prototypes and use trial-and-error approaches, which is really the only way that modders can know for sure whether their ideas will pull together. Being able to do that within the game, rather than having to close, edit and re-open, will save so much time!

That’s only one way this new system can be used. I’m imagining some awesome scripted (literally!) content, SFM style, so players can show off their constructions with maximum control over their “actors.” For players who get into that side of things, it’s a massive improvement in control-ability.

And for players who want more control over their hearthlings, this allows it – right down to clearing a hearthling’s current task and assigning them a specific one. I imagine that playing around with this “the hard way” could very soon lead to a mod which allows players to directly control their hearthlings, if anyone is so inclined to make it happen. Such a mod would be very difficult/tedious without the LUA console, because it would require tons of back-and-forth to check that assigned actions are working, but with this new console option it allows on-the-fly adjustments and testing.

Before I get too excited about the possibilities of this LUA console (which I likely won’t use, but still…), welcome back @morgan10e :merry:

Just to convert it to CET : 17.30 wed. 9th of august :merry:

anyone else have problems with 22.5 when launching the game it runs PC into Turtle mode and moving cursor is extremely slow like the entire pc is slowed down to a zombie turtle?

Once the game starts the slowness goes away but during the startup pc is barely responding and weirdly slow since 22.5 came for me

i also get this UI error very often never had it in the past

So, 22.5 is an unstable version? Or is it not released yet?
I’m never really able to tell what dates (stable) releases hit Steam etc.

For the UI error:

  • Do you have any more details?
  • When does it happen?
  • Do you have any mods that touch UI?

For the slowness:

  • Does it disappear if you switch to stable?
  • Does Stonehearth show CPU activity in the task manager when launching?
  • Are you running an antivirus, and have you updated or changed anything about it since the last time you saw no slowness on startup?

@Hamnisu A22.5 is currently on unstable/latest, but will be moving to stable eventually, probably after a couple more iterations.

Great! Thanks for helping me out understanding what’s going on, @max99x!

seems to be related to the Settlement Decoration Mod
found out after disable all mods and try with only this one and it broke the UI
It happens when i change the Shadow Slider Quality
this only happens with latest release not with the Stable Release

hard to see exactly how much is used since it turns the PC into extreme slow mode moving the cursor takes several seconds to happen.
It does not seem from my reading to be more than 30% of my i7 920@3.8ghz thats being used on launching the game
it gets smooth directly when i get to the start menu.
when launching when it’s this slow i also get that time glas on the cursor instead of a cursor.
i tried disable all the mods same results
Stable Release
on the stable release there is no slow down of the entire PC when starting stonehearth and the game launches much quicker

Release 753 Latest

AMD 7950 3GB Driver 17.4.4 (also tried with the latest same result)
i7 920@3.8Ghz
Samsung 840 SSD Game Drive
Samsung 830 SSD OS Drive
Windows 10 x64
