Crash on startup, please help (plugged webcam doesn't like the game?)

tried changing the page file to be set manually: no jaz, still that damn error. tried a ram checker, ram is not busted…

just found this somewhere:
Check the Event log, to see if there are any errors around the same time when the game crashes.
type event viewer into the windows search bar and it should appear.

if you already tried then skip :wink:

checking out the event viewer idea now
error changed lately:

right, went for the nuclear option. got a fresh install of windows 10.
installed the drivers for my graphics card (gtx 1060 6gb) and…stonehearth wont start.
this time though, i dont get a crash warning it just does a grand total of &#%#$ all.
stonehearth.log (2.9 KB)stonehearth.txt (3.3 KB)

If it’s the first time you launch it on a new system, the antivirus (e.g. Windows’ built-in Anti-Malware) may take forever to scan the file. The log shows no crashes or errors. If you launch the game and look in the task manager, does the game appear? Is the AntiMalware service using a large amount of CPU?

that would be a no max :confused:

tried all combinations of 32/64 bit, compatabillity mode, both of those, and run as administrator. no jazz. do i need a specific redistributable or something?

Steam should install any needed VC++ redistributables, and you would get an explicit error if that was the problem. So if you go to the game folder, double-click Stonehearth.exe, with no compatibility mode and not as administrator, nothing at all happens?

pops up for a few seconds, then goes away. leaving no crash.dmp

and then after it comes and goes, (so fast i cant even find the process in the task manager)
nothing new happens :confused:

Try with Steam disabled in user_settings, and If that still fails, look into the event logs as No_Name suggested above.

{
	"user_id" : "42f485a4-99ec-40ee-b087-0579cbfb68da",
	"multiplayer" : {
		"server" : {
			"default" : {
				"max_players" : 1,
				"remote_connections_enabled" : false
			}
		}
	},
	"steam" : { "enabled" : false }
}

like so?

Yes, like that.

steam disabled didnt change anything.

any more ideas? somehow to trigger a crash dump again maybe? since now its on win 10 (i have less then no idea how a cleanly installed stonehearth can crash like this, really i dont)

edit:
also, i havent noticed steam doing a “first time run” installing of things for stonehearth, even though other games do do this. so im not sure it installed dependancies and things. what -ARE- the things stonehearth absolutely needs?

hmmm, no real reason to try this but why not… (also if it was before then let me think any other random options)
what onboard gpu your pc has and have you tried using that one?

I looked up the address in your message, but that’s just a memory copy, so that doesn’t tell us much. Have you changed your memory configuration recently? Can you try running a memory testing utility like Prime95 or MemTest86?

In what way? No I changed nothing that I know of regarding to memory, and I ran a memory test
Before I tried fixing it by installing win 10 (all was a OK, other games also run without a hitch)

I have thought about it but have no idea how to force it (it’s the integrated stuff in my Intel 2500k)

Also this

also tried this again since im now on windows 10: no dice.

I have found the solution…
disconnecting my webcam, physically, from my computer.
and copying stonehearths folder to my desktop. it refuses to play from the steam folder.
more research is being done XD
i wish i was kidding you.

edit: tried it mutliple times. the webcam HAS to be disconnected, or i wont play.
edit2: and now it once again, refuses to start, regardless what i do… what arcane magic is going on here :L

edit3: seems it just doesnt like some settings beyond the webcam
user_settings.txt (1.0 KB)
these work, but when ingame i changed it to max graphics, fullscreen etc, no dice. more research will be done.

edit4: the setting that make it crash on startup is fullscreen. everything else is allowed.
user_settings.txt (1.4 KB)

any ideas how to fix fullscreen @max99x?

edit 5: running it like this runs like absolute dog doodoo though, as if its only got 20% or less performance or something
