Just flattern some terrain and replace it with earth where needed and wait some time to grow your own forest
Later you’ll get a spell for faster growth of trees

Played it. Fell too short of both Dwarf Fortress and Terraria.
First, it was too ‘blocky’ and sluggish. The items/blocks were too large and looked too cumbersome in comparison to the dwarves. I understand that in Dwarf fortress, items take up a single space, the same as a dwarf but it’s just not the same.
Second, the roleplaying was extremely limited (for the moment). Limited number of skills and skills available to learn. A lot of it also depends on the equipment at the moment other than the skill of the dwarf (at the moment).
Third, exploration is also extremely limited. Since the blocks are so large and the map so small, the places available to discover is extremely limited not to mention a bit mundane (old hatch dugout, monster hive, etc).
I was kind of put off by this game sadly. I really wanted to like it.
The sluggishness is actually a big part of why I like it. It’s great that it’s at a leasurely enough pace that something like building a bridge over a water actually still feels like an accomplishment, in my opinion. It’s one of those games (like Torchlight II and Minecraft) that I’ll play while listening to podcasts or rating music in my collection. Of course, that’s a matter of preference.
I see what you mean about the blockiness/size issue, but it doesn’t really bother me personally.
I think the skills do contribute a bit, for example my dwarves trained in archery/ranged skill seem to hit enemies more often than the ones without it (that still use bows). I haven’t personally felt limited by the exploration only – I see what you mean about the small world size, but underground there appears to be plenty to find. And the first map is explicitly marked as “small”.
Anyway, I don’t think it beats a gem like Dwarf Fortress, but I am really enjoying it personally. But of course, your opinion is valid as well. Shame it didn’t manage to capture you the way it did me. However, I will suggest that since at least some of your complaints were about limitations in the scope of the game, you might want to check back on it in the future when it’s no longer in alpha and is properly released.
Its a fun game… I got it for like 2 bucks on Steam!! GO GO Selling items on steam!!
Steam is killing my pocket book… slowly…
i’ve purchased about 10 games in the last 3 days… however, it only cost my about .36 cents, so… there’s that…
Did they fix the coal issue yet? I played it for a couple of hours and had some fun, but at a point I realized coal is the most important resource, you just need it for almost everything (including meals, gold, silver, copper, …).
Well, you still need it for quite a bit of stuff, but it’s not much of an issue for me – I’ve got 99 spare at the moment.
