Cant continue the game after loading it

Hi, I am new so sorry if I don’t provide enough info.

I am not sure if this is a bug or just me not knowing what to do to continue a game after loading it.
The issue is that after I start a game, save it, then try to load it, the game loads but once it is done I get to only see the map but I cant unpause the game or do anything to the game because the list is not there and none of my keys seem to be doing anything.

I hope someone can help, I am sure I am missing something important, weather it is a set of keys I forgot to hit or a process that I must follow when I want to save the game in its current state.

For now, you can press f5 to reload the interface. I have this too, and is irritating…

Sweet!
It worked, took a few seconds so I hit some of the other f keys thinking it failed but it worked, thanks!
I just hope I didn’t mess anything else up by hitting those keys xD

This fix isnt working for me which is very annoying cause Im having to create a new save whenever I want to play ;-;

To be more precise about what I do:

I start the game, load my save. It takes a long time, because it is a big city.

The city appear, everything is laggy. I wait.

If after 1 minute there is still no interface, I press F5. Not just a little quick touch, I hold it for a while, like half a second. Just to make sure it register, as maybe the game can miss your key press from its lag.

I wait a little more, around 30 seconds. No interface yet? Last chance, F5 again, and wait. No? Ok bye. Restarting the game, and then on next initialization it works…

Although lately I never restarted the game. On previous alphas it was almost certain that only after a restart it would load properly…

@Okabig, @Wubaloo, if the issue persists, a clean reinstall should work (don’t know if you’ve been playing since a previous release or not). Although if it’s caused by loading a huge savefile, it might not work :sweat:

  1. Launch Steam.
  2. Right-click Stonehearth and click Properties
  3. Click on the Local Files tab
  4. Click Browse Local Files...
  5. If you have saved games or templates to save, complete the following. Otherwise, skip to step 6 below.
  • For saved games, copy saved_games to another location, like your Desktop.
  • For templates, copy saved_objects to another locaiton, like your Desktop.
  1. Go up one directory level to the common folder.
  2. Delete the Stonehearth folder.
  3. Close Windows Explorer and return to Steam.
  4. Right-click Stonehearth and click Uninstall...
  5. Once removed, right-click Stonehearth again and click Install Game...
  6. If you backed up saves or templates in step 5 above, do the following. Otherwise, skip to step 12.
  7. Right-click Stonehearth and click Properties
  8. Click on the Local Files tab
  9. Click Browse Local Files...
  10. Copy the backed up folders into Stonehearth folder.
  11. Close Windows Explorer.
  12. Launch Stonehearth
  13. Finally…
  • If this works, great! Please let us know so we can mark this as resolved.
  • If not, please upload your stonehearth.log from the game install directory (follow steps 2-4 if unsure how to access) to the Discourse so we can take a look.

Does it still happen with all of your savefiles? Are you using auto-save or manual save?

You should be able to upload the savefile now, @Wubaloo . If the *.zip is less than 10 MB, feel free to upload it directly to the Discourse. If larger, please upload it to a cloud storage site like Dropbox, Google Drive, File Dropper, etc. and post the sharing link here.
