Build & Design Annoyances

I think this may have been said before but this is kind of annoying. It’s really hard to design complex buildings at the moment if you want to make it look fancy. Anyways, this is what I found annoying.

  • Placing rooms and stairs inside buildings must be done after growing roofs. Otherwise, the game seems to accept these individual rooms as their own separate building. When you try growing a roof on a floor that has an entrance hole for a stair, it will plug that hole as well. The current grow walls feature does work with floors with an entrance hole for a stair if the cursor is placed on the outer edge of the floor, but it doesn’t seem to work for roofs.

  • There’s no vision toggle to change what you want to look at from floor to floor. It doesn’t matter too much if you’re building on the next floors with just doors, windows and walls. It’s a big annoyance if you’re placing furniture on the first floor.

  • No option to place furniture yet on the second floor and up. You have to wait for the building to be finished to place stuff.

  • You can’t undo placing custom walls.

  • The undo function seems to stop working after placing custom walls. Because of this, you can’t undo misplaced furniture, walls or doors too. You have to undo everything if you happen to mess up.

  • Buildings have to be at least 2 voxels away from other objects like mountains and stuff. I wish it would give a warning since once the design is finished and the Hearthlings are working, they can’t reach the back part of the building and it won’t continue building it. And since it can’t reach that back side either, it won’t remove the building too.

Also, I don’t know if this is intended but you can place custom walls on custom walls. It seems kind of weird since you’re omitting the floor that could had been covered in between.

Hi @setsk0n,

I literally just finished fixing this today; you’ll see it soon on Alpha 15…

Yeah, this sucks. We won’t be able to solve anything in time for A15, but the next alpha ought to see some good usability improvements for multi-story buildings, and this is right at the top of that list.[quote=“setsk0n, post:1, topic:20517”]

Wow, that was bad. Fixed for Alpha 15. [quote=“setsk0n, post:1, topic:20517”]

I’ve never seen this behaviour before; are you on A15 latest? Can you give me more specific instructions on reproducing this bug?[quote=“setsk0n, post:1, topic:20517”]

This should be going into A16 for building UI improvements (in addition to actually being able to just drag your building template out of the way of obstructions).

Thanks for the reply! I’ll reproduce that bug once I get home.

Okay so I tried to reproduce it again. It only stops working once you start making walls on the second floor and up. The undo function just stops working for that building. I’m on the latest A15 version.
