Big savefiles becoming corrupt when saving

I try loading my game but it isn’t loading. It loads halfway and then it stops.

I have more then 100 hours work in it.

Hi,
try to load a different save and then load the save you want to load.

I tried didn’t work :frowning:

Could you upload the savefile that doesn’t load?

Maybe it got corrupt or something.

To upload a savefile:

  1. Find the save folder for the saves you wish to upload. By default, they are located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stonehearth\saved_games (assuming a default Steam install).
  2. Zip the folder.
  3. Right click the folder (should be a long set of numbers).
  4. Left click on Send to in the menu that appears.
  5. Left click on `Compressed (Zipped) folder).
  6. (Optional) Rename the folder to something different than the default set of numbers.
  7. Upload the save.
  8. If the zip is less than 10 MB, you can upload it directly. Either use the upload button or drag and drop it into the compose window,
  9. If larger than 10 MB, upload it to a cloud storage site like Dropbox, Google Drive, File Dropper, etc. and post the sharing link here.

you don’t have an auto save or an older save? I mean losing a few hours is better than losing the whole thing right

I only have one save and if you can open it you will understand why I hope I can load it again.

huh yeah something definitely not right with it, half way through loading the save, it returns me to the game loading screen

you really dont have auto save enabled?

I had autosave on but my game is so big it takes a lot of time to save it. So I turned it off.

It took me a hell of a time to gain it like this so I hope it can be fixt.

so instead of writing a new save, you kept overwriting the same save?

Yes sir, but everytime I completed a design for a building I made a second save. So when it didn’t finishes the building or something went wrong I could go back and if everything worked out I deleted the older version.

:anguished: sigh why would you do this…like why should anyone help you if you can’t help yourself by keeping proper backups? its just going to happen again :pensive:

It worked fine when I saved it until I tried to reload it the next day.

I don’t see why my way of saving is wrong? If the hearthlings finish the building they have to build. Then I delete the save before they started building and make a new one. If something goes wrong while they are building I can go back and try to not make the same mistake again.

yeah but you have 0 backups?? thats the entire point of having the ability to save your game, so that you have a backup

I looked into that savefile, but unfortunately it’s corrupted beyond restoration. The end of it is filled with zeroes, and crucial pieces of data have been lost. This could happen if the game crashed during saving, if multiple instances of Stonehearth were trying to access that file, or if you ran out of disk space while the file was being written.

While keeping multiple savegames is a good idea, especially for a game that is still in alpha, it certainly shouldn’t be required. I sincerely apologize for our bugs destroying that frankly amazing looking city - it really is one of the prettiest builds I’ve seen, and I hope this won’t stop you from making even more beautiful things in future versions of Stonehearth.

If it is any consolation at all, while I couldn’t get the save into a playable state, with enough engine modifications I was able to get most of it to render, and took some screenshots to immortalize your incredible work. While they really don’t do it justice, I figured it is better than nothing.

wow that is amazing. no way to save the builds as blueprints?

Unfortunately, not as far as I can tell. I was able to get the geometry out, but most of the game data is shot. :glum:

thats too bad :frowning:
I thought there might be some magic you could pull since it was rendered that would allow you to save the blocks that got rendered or something

Thank you for making the screenshots

When Alpha 23 is out I wolk start again with a proper back up system. It will be bigger, better and beautiful.
