so i found a way to get an item way up in the sky. easy to reproduce. all you have to do is move a workbench on top of an item sitting on the ground. i was doing it by getting an item on the work bench then having a hearthling move the bench to the spot where it was.

the item is still considered on the workbench and will be used by the crafter when making stuff,though.
