Music and Soundtrack

@Lvl0User I feel like such a tool… how could I leave out Legend of Zelda!?

Thanks Rico, NebulaNine, ernierock! It’s very appreciated!

@Nyrixa That’s a great idea; something light and casual for battles and skirmishes, something very heavy and epic for titans! Hmmm…

@Lvl0User True but would they really fit this kind of lighthearted atmosphere? I was thinking something that starts quirky and light and gets more intense the longer the battle lasts. Good point with Zelda! Koji Kondo, eh?..

@Raj I was just thinking general inspiration. When I hear that music, it puts me in a really creative mood. However, FF7 has some really interesting encounter music and Legend of Zelda does have a great lighthearted feel while still feeling epic.

@Raj @Lvl0User Whilst FF7 might be a bit too ‘heavy’ for the atmosphere, Final Fantasy Tactics might fit the bill a bit more?

I’m only now realising there is a LOT of battle music for FFT, but here’s some for easy reference:

[urlhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGdeHJKicmc] Theme#3

[urlhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwh7XYSaQBM] Theme #4 This one’s pretty good.

Judging by the videos there’s about 20 themes overall, I don’t have time right now to go through them all, and I missed out #2 as I felt it didn’t quite fit.

@Raj I don’t think having the 16 bit sound was the trailer music guy’s idea. I’m guessing that’s what Tom & Tony want.
There’s no other chip-tune-y sounding stuff on his soundcloud.

But this track is awesome! I’d love some battle music like this.

@Raj This one always did the trick when i was small Age of Mythology (music fight 5).wmv

@Geoffers747 Great call on the FF Tactics music. It is a bit lighter and still just as awesome.

@SamEWNS I really like the vast majority of Zelda music… Remix or original. Also, Zelda music has always had this nice light feel while still being epic in scope.

@Nyrixa I forgot all about the AoE games. There is alot of great music coming out of that whole series.

Must say, the music is quite good. (let me know if you make a CD to sell)

These might be a little too ‘dark’ for the theme of the game, but I’m just chucking some music out there for inspiration

And seeing as you hadn’t heard of it this is the theme sing for a world of keflings (sequel to kingdom of keflings) I’m on my mobile so apologies if this doesn’t work! A World Of Keflings Theme Tune

I love this Raj!! I second the battle music but could you also make some dungeon music?? I want to see what you could do with that!

@Geoffers747 Those are two great tracks. But you’re right, they are a little dark. Something like that could work for a hell world plane though.

Just to keep chucking ideas out there, whilst these might be a bit ‘built up’ for the style of SH, I think they’re worth a look.

@Geoffers747, Wow… absolutely… Both those pieces are perfect examples to pull from. I forgot about this game… it was so powerful…

Because it had an excellent soundtrack!

Last ones I swear.

A couple from To the Moon:

hah! this is like inspiration overload!

All of these are fine but I’d love some slightly more… country tunes. Like Lone Lone Ranch from Zelda. It’s not exactly 16 bit, but frankly I don’t play a lot of… “lower tier graphic games”, so I’m not familiar with em.

Pokemon fight song? lol.

Haha thank you very much. Hopefully it will be the Stonehearth Official OST. And since we’re being wishful here, let’s add as interpreted by the Boston Philharmonic Symphony.

With guest stars and special remixes by Chris Martin, Kanye West and Joe Hisaishi. And Tupac.

@ Rudy Haha thanks man! I would love to do dungeons but I’d want to see what they have in mind for dungeons before I go trying to ‘paint’ it!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I think I know where to go with this one but keep plugging away! And that To the Moon soundtrack is really something, wow.

@DAWGaMims Love Lon Lon Ranch. Good point!

@Raj GAH! I KNEW IT WAS LON LON RANCH! I doubted myself… forgive me my hardcore brethren.

Okay then, here’s a shot at some battle music. It might be too heavy and epic but I can’t help but feel like there’s a bit of Zelda (and maybe some Mitsuda) in there somewhere…

***Re-Edit: Reposted

Slowed down and cleaned up a bit. Lot’s of valuable feedback for this, I really appreciate it!

I think I’ll be making two or three quick demo battle pieces and get some input as to which one to develop. Now that we’ve got EPIC out of the way, let’s move towards something a bit more whimsical…

It’s epic, sure, but I feel at the start there’s way too much going on! Everything’s fighting everything else, I couldn’t find anything to hang onto. And it sounds like it’s from a different game than the first pieces.

But that is the coolest track name I’ve ever heard, ever.

I love this “Bit by Bit” more than the other, unfinished, one… or the few other tracks I had time to listen too. Which does not mean, any of them is not good
