I think magic should be something very special when you get some of it. Having magic everywhere would, personally, ruin it for me. Magic should be something you stuble upon or have great difficultie gaining it, but have great rewards.

This is something they have talked about in the livestreams, and they have the same mindset as you. They would like magic to be rare and for it to be something you have to work for.
Which in my opinion is a good idea as I believe it will be more fun having to work towards something like this as it adds more depth and therefore enjoyment to the game.
Yeah, it has to be something you’ve devoted time and resources towards.
