IMHO the discourse forum lacks a lot of simplicity usual forums do have. It’s hard to orientate as a new user.
i’ll grant you that there is a bit of a learning curve to using the discourse… but the trade off is well worth it (in my opinion), as this forum functions much more like an application (with a number of very useful tools at your disposal), as opposed to the typical “flat” forum experience…
but again, all opinions… 
Comments like this make me think of many similar situations in history.
The Colonial Monarchy system has been working for hundreds of years, everyone is used to it, why change it?
Horses have been doing a great job for hundreds of years, this automobile thing is so noisy and slow, why change?
Web crawler is what everyone is used to, this Google thing is so different, why not just stick with what we are used to?
