So I had some crates and I wanted only stone to go into these crates.
Stones refuse to be placed into crates.
Steps to reproduce:
Make a crate.
Filter out everything except stones.
Wait for crate to be filled with no stones.

Did you have stones that weren’t already in a stockpile? You’d have to remove stones from the other stockpile/crate filters.
I haven’t had this issue. Have you tried placing your crates closer to your mine?
Hmm. Okay.
That’s an odd design however, prioritizing zoned areas over storage crates.
+jjjshab I had crates designated specifically for stones and a stockpile designation for all resources. According your post, I should either I should eliminate stone stockpiling in zones in order for my workers to put stone into the crates.
The odd thing is that even though my stockpile wasn’t filled up, I had a crate with 3 stone inside it. And I also had a crate filled with ore where the ore was stockpiled in both crates and the designated zoning area. So this was obviously a bug for me. Sorry for not explaining it in depth earlier.
I’ll redescribe the situation in more detail below:
Setting: Plain settlement. Settlement is no where near a mine. I do not have a mine.
Other Notable settings:
+adapro I appreciate the feedback but I’m not complaining or looking for workarounds. Workarounds don’t get the job done. There’s a some lack of AI logic or a strange logic concerning stockpiling and workarounds don’t do any good in the long run of development. And I didn’t have a mine.
I may still have the save but its for the 2nd latest alpha build before the update yesterday.
If anyone is interested, tell me how to upload save files. Unless this issue was already addressed by the devs in the latest build.
Yes, I’m not sure how the prioritization works, but it seems if a crate and stockpile are within the same vicinity, the Hearthlings will prefer to place items in the stockpile. So, you’d have to deselect stone from your stockpile in order for them to move the stones into the crates. Or, you can move the crates closer to the source of your stone resource.
Hey @athenalras, to my knowledge the only AI for storage is “what is closest to me.” Note that crates as a storage mechanism are fairly new in the game (only came about in Alpha 11), and they are still working out some of the mechanics with them (and storage in general). I am going to page @Ponder and @yshan to see if either of them can provide more detail on how the AI treats storage.
That would be great to see a preview of how the storage mechanics will iron out. But I am aware that it is a rather new feature.
There’a lot of logic flaws throughout the alpha that needs addressing first, however. I had a post about workers pausing at the storage zone for more than a few seconds before continuing on with another task even though there were other tasks available such as either gathering or constructing.
Other logic problems include workers going to pick up resources and dropping them off only to pick them up again to head to the construction site to build something.
Sorry for veering off topic.
Hey again @athenalras, is this still an issue for you in the latest builds?
I haven’t been able to play lately due to school and work. Sorry about that.
No need to apologize! Just going through A12 bug reports to do some pre-A13 cleanup. Don’t want to close any reports that have not been fixed.
Please remember that school, work, family, friends, well, really anything in “real life” comes first…so don’t worry.
