From what I can see from the picture, it appears they are stuck due to the overhang at the front of the mining region. Since they, in some circumstances, can’t mine blocks above their head they stopped. Adding a few ladders to the top of this region will probably get them back to mining.

no they arent stuck becuase saving and reloading they go back to the town and completely ignore the mining order
tim1 is right, they can not reach the “next” block the game tells them to mine.
Add some ladders as tim1 said and they will finish the mining operation.
well maybe the game shouldent tell them to mine the highest block next it should tell them mine the 2bd 3rd third ones up then the 4th one up

yes the issue with the miningtool is real. It should be faster and easier to just use the 4x4 block tool, but always end up with micromangement… @dutchuss2016 of what i have gathered, the new buildingsystem will make the hearthlings smarter on that front, so they automaticly know when to make a ladder themselves… but its not right around the corner.
