Well, with the new style of mining, I think one thing is missing 
Now u can mine 1x1 to 8x8, but the Slice vision still going every 4.
It’ll could be great if it could change to unitary, maybe.

This would be great plus it would make creating underground communities SO much easier. If you’ve ever tried to craft an upper level inside a mountain it becomes nearly impossible to figure out how to make stairs correctly because of the 4x block jumps that leave 1 space in between.

Easiest way I find to make stairs going upwards is to Slice to the level you want, Queue out a mining shaft down from the level and then subtract from the area you want to mine. This creates a “maintenance” staircase you can use, but for grand staircase carve outs, it’s always easier to carve downward.
They need to lighten the selection color too, the almost white, makes hard to see what you are selecting to carve out.
