Something I think would be very beneficial to implement early on (or at least before we get a massive amount of class) is the ability to assign buildings, or specific rooms to a specific task (once we can make actual rooms). For example. After making your first major building you could assign it as the âtown hallâ where villagers congregate when idle; or a bunk house where villagers go to rest. Inside individual buildings you might set bedroom zones which a single villager would take ownership of; or perhaps setting small buildings as literal âhousesâ which you can assign villagers to live in. The list goes on for as many different types of buildings as you can think of. Guards gather and train at a barracks. Animals and farm products are stored in a barn. Travelers stop and rest at an Inn. Feasts and parties are held at the pub/bar. Etc. Etc.
This allows villagers to make better sense of what youâve made and make it so buildings have a stronger purpose. Of course it wonât be necessary until we get enough content to make use of diversifying the building types. I definitely see it being useful later on in defining areas of a large town with its many different parts.
hey there @Weapon_Master, this has already been suggested many times, just give me a sec to find and merge with the new thread.
edit: there we are
what if bill wants to invite sue over for a night cap after a long day in the field but as bill opens the the door for sue⌠oh im sorry no guest allowed
very sad for bill
what about hearthling house partyâs?
haha oh ok maybe Iâm having to much fun here
Iâm still going to be that guy who thinks that buildings should be used differently based on what is in them, not by how theyâre labeled or zoned. Most of the arguments over this took place long before I came to this Discourse, but thatâs the side I take. Thatâs only because I want my non-square inn to serve food and drinks on one floor and have beds on the next floor, and zones would make both non-rectangular floorplans and combinations a pain.
I was thinking. Perhaps that, when we get the option to organize bed usage, we should also have the option to choose who gets what weapons? After all, you may make 2 two-handed swords, and then two random hearthlings just grab them. Personally, I donât like that. I say you should be able to choose what weapons and armor your footmen use. For example, I have 2 footmen. I want one to be a tank and the other to be light+swift on her feet. This is where weapon choice comes in handy. Iâd equip one with heavy steel armor, and a hefty iron mace (which should probably take 2 hands and do more damage in the future), while Iâd equip the other with leather armor, a wooden buckler, and a steel shortsword, to make sure sheâs swift yet deadly. Rather than the âlightâ one grabbing a steel shortsword, steel armor, and a wood buckler, and my âtankâ grabbing the leather armor and mace.
Tell me guys what you think, and Iâll see yall later!
letâs just merge this in here, as it falls under the same umbrella (assigning units to items - and I know its been touched on elsewhere)âŚ
Ownership is just the thing I want! At least it make more sense.
And whatâs more, to make this game more like a city builder, I hope there could be a system of âneedâ.
The system of need could be combined with the current âpraises&gripesâ system I think, just made it more clear. And if will be based on the ownership system.
In this system, your hearthlings will feel wired if they donât have their own bed or room. A house could belong to multiple hearthlings, depending on how many beds it contains. And they also need their own chests(in their owned houses) to store the goods as well. They will always prefer to take foods and clothes from their own chests. They will take the goods from the stockpile to their houses, and store them in their own chests(if they got one) instead of just randomly picked up something from anywhere. And decorations placed on a owned building will saitisfy its owner more then other ones, ect.
And, oh, remember to let hearthlings always pick cooked foods first, but eat raw foods first to avoid logicl issues, as long as cooks could no longer pick raw materials from other hearthlingâs home in this system!
I would really like a way to assign my hearthlings to specific area like a watch tower, barracks or even their job.
And i thought bed assignment can maybe provide the answer to it.
Hey there @tailevi, welcome to the discourse!
Bed assignment is definitely planned, but has not been implemented yet.
Minor correction: it has been implemented, but it was since removed as it wasnât done very well. The teamâs planned to bring it back once they have the system thought out better.
Very true @coasterspaul, should have written ânot currently implementedââŚ
what about you could assign Hearthlings to a house? if there was 4 beds only 4 Hearthlings would be able to be assigned to that house?
Can we like, put some ownership on buildings, like when putting a Carpenter Wall sign on a building will make that building only for Carpenterâs use?
Or do some individual ownership like in the sleeping quarters, who can sleep on specified bed and stuff? Sometimes its kinda annoying to see my Blacksmith sleeping in my carpenters house or farmer in army barracks.
Hey @useurname123,
Ahh, this idea.
Well good news! This idea has been requested very often. So often, this is now a planned feature in the game⌠So to be more âinternet,â Hashtag âBUILDING / BED OWNERSHIPâ CONFIRMED! : D
But yeah, I love this idea so much, and I canât wait for it in the game!
Good topic!
Oh, also! Hereâs the Roadmap, or the âTrello Board,â thatâs used to show what Radiant Entertainment is currently working on with Stonehearth - the green being the most prevalent. Here you can see that the âOwnershipâ idea is on there in the âGameplayâ category.
-Surly
I agree with you totally. Using ownership, in my eyes would sort out the town and make it look organized. I find it annoying when someone sleeps in a bed, and the next night someone else is sleeping in it!
You mean, you and your several neighbors donât randomly pick bedrooms every night in real life? Thatâs weird.
Taking âmi casa es su casaâ a touch too literally
Moved you over here - just keeping things tidy :). You might find the previous discussion of some interest!
Hehe, great joke DEFINITELY 'bout the game though!
