I would like that very much. Say, for instance, there’s a table in your crate, and if you want to place it you just double-click on it or something and are given the option to set it up in the world.
Open the build menu, and at the sub-menus, next to the ladder icon, there is a chair icon, which is the “place item” function. Click it and it will open a list of all your items, click them and click in the world.
You can also press P on your keyboard as a shortcut.

The one problem I have with crates that I can’t use the place item menu for is when some rotten food starts getting into my food crates, and there doesn’t seem to be much I can do about that.
