After the first or second cart wheels into town, selling objects no longer yields any gold, but the item sold still vanishes from inventory.
you do have your town banner down, right? if not then you wont get the gold

Yes, but I always move it from the original location. Perhaps this is the bug? Moving the town banner causes issues with trading.

While I don’t get the chests of gold I do still get the gold added my total money. Maybe this is why it isn’t added to your net worth.
I’ve found that I get one gold “unit” per 100 gold I actually have. If I sell items that don’t put my gold total over the next 100-point plateau, it doesn’t add a gold “unit” to my town.
