Biased Hate Towards New Games [RANT]

dear lord man, I just guffawed on the bus… guffawed!

some of those YouTube quotes here are so comical though, that part of me hopes they were written entirely in jest, as opposed to trying to illicit an angry response from other viewers…

Actually both of these statements are incredibly correct. Why do you think there’s playable race of Dwarves?

Towns uses Ideas from The Settlers and Age of Empires.

So what, everything is a derivative of something else these days.
There isn’t one thing Unique about anything anymore.

Inventing something isn’t coming up with something new, it’s taking two already discovered things, putting them together and tada! Rinse repeat for a computer game.

I for one is glad that Stonehearth is taking features from other great games.

But then there’s these comments:

“StoneHearth? Really? That’s the name they went with? Maybe something else… that doesn’t sound like a very popular online card game that came out recently would have been better?”

“A very well thought title for this! Sarcasm
No, they probably saw Hearthstone, and though, “NO ONE IS GOING TO NOTICE WE CHANGED THE ORDER OF THE WORDS!”.
This so called “Stonehearth”, has too much of a similar name, as we have already seen, in the pretty recent Hearthstone… Lack of original graphic (Looks like Cubeworld).
Lack of original gameplay (Looks like Stone and Timber). Lack of original name (Looks like Hearthstone).
I hate these indie games that has surfaced the last few years. Why? They lack originality. So many games that think that if they use the Minecraft “blocky” world, they will have as much succes as Mojang had. By “copying” the looks, “copying” the gameplay isnt enough to sell the title. At least for me. Id prefer new content. I dont want different games, with similar gameplay, similar looks, similar graphics. TRY SOMETHING NEW! GET CREATIVE! Seriously…
Remember this is all my opinion, yours may vary. I respect your opinion, i only ask for you to respect mine.”

“omg minecraft ripoff”

Oh brother.

You can’t change it.

Read this an laugh about it instead. xkcd: Duty Calls (added a rowbreak)

It’s like trying to explain that Starcraft is a rippoff of Warhammer 40k and that Warcraft is a rippoff of Warhammer you just can’t do it.

No need for rants guys. I understand the frustration, but Internet criticism isn’t new our surprising. Focus on the positive and don’t let it get you down!

To wit: That video has 200x more likes than dislikes. I think the overwhelming majority of gamers just want great games to play. If we deliver on Stonehearth we have nothing to worry about. If we don’t deliver, we deserve any criticism we get. But we aim to deliver!

Hey @Tom, I just had to write this down to get it out of my system and to tell people if they’re going to criticize something, at least provide some good reasons to back it up. If you want to, lock up this thread.
