Could we have half blocks so we can build forts and castles like in this image,http://i.ytimg.com/vi/PHLxqxQdefw/maxresdefault.jpg
Half blocks could be possibly useful, but fort you mentiones is built with normal blocks only So its clearly possible to build it this way.
This has regular blocks only. I’ve remade this model to scale in Qubicle, half blocks would be a interesting addition but ultimately not a huge improvement will be made to the game imo with its addition.
The problem with half blocks is that it opens up a whole new world of issues with construction in the game engine, as well as terrain generation–Minecraft actually had quite a bit of trouble with half blocks for a while in their development (particularly with terrain and trying to make the world more interesting).
Radiant’s probably not going to worry about splitting the voxel for a while, but when/if they do consider it, I’d actually prefer them to jump immediately to splitting it by eighths instead of a half block, since it’d allow for much more creative diversity and avoid limitations in the design that might persist and restrict the system down the road. The half block would then come along as a result of this system of division.
That would probably be the best way to go about it - Minecraft’s had slabs for a long, long time, and it’s still missing vertical halves.
Radiant has most of the technology for partial voxels already in the engine - models can already be rendered at a different scale, and locations and sizes can have decimals. But they may simply decide not to include them. That’s fine by me. Having eighth blocks would mean many builders would feel obligated to work with that level of detail, and once you have a higher level of detail in a world, everything with less detail looks out of place.
To be fair, having that smaller unit of creation could be really useful for designing personal decorations–remember that giant soldier statue from the Kickstarter cityscape? Making one of those in-game would be tremendously easier (and better-looking scale-wise).
As you said, though, it does open one heck of a Pandora’s Box situation with game designing and construction… I’m honestly already feeling like certain things are out of place in my worlds, so I guess I’d be in favor of the smaller unit, if they were considering it!
(commence with the hair pulling over details)
(A bit out of context):
Do you see those chests on top of the tower? I wonder why Tom didn’t pick them and remade new leather bound chests. Those look already great.
Yes, would be nice to see those in the game, too. Like a variation or different skin.
Yep, more variety of chest/crates would be welcome! (simply to diferenciate the stocks!)
Concerning the half block idea, on the paper it’s more liberty and creativity and that’s cool BUT because of this it’s also an easier way to swift from Stonehearth typical cubical style (rounded voulmes would be easier to do). So from this point of view, if we want to stick to the Stonehearth style I think it would be better to keep things as they are.
yea when i first heard we were getting chests i thought it was going to be those ones, but i was wrong
No it is not possible, Since the pillars are only half way out… and you can’t do that currently.
I think they are whole block out, the big ones are 2x2 blocks wide and the small one are 1x1.
indeed, i made a very rough test template yesterday, and it appears that they are 1 block out, rather then a “half block”.
