So, we had a post that said what would be in A11. New crafter workshops were pstponed, that’s fine. But I still haven’t noticed any work done on Water, Part 2 or stairs! I hope Radiant won’t make 2 more things postponed, or Alpha 11 won’t be a very beefy update.
This one? Crafter workshops are the only thing we know is postponed. We’ve seen work being done on the Cook and the crates, but not much has been said about the other features.
It’s been hinted a bit here and there that they’ve worked on back-end stuff. Making the renderer and such perform much better. Though exactly what they’ve done apart from that blog post; I don’t know.
Well I think they probably finished those quickly, and just haven’t showcased them. Better to show us the boring stuff like crates and cooks so we’ll freak out at the stairs and water.
Keep in mind the devs said multiple times that they are spending a lot of time bug fixing during this alpha.
I don’t think they “promised” us anything. And squishing too much stuff into one alpha is likely to break it. They want the game to be MORE stable for future alphas, not less.
That’s what I’m saying. I still haven’t seen any work done on stairs and water part 2.
In all the stream tests, there are no new bodies of water on the starting map.
were either of those things said/promised to be in alpha 11?
I believe you have lost track of the fact that this is alpha. Any sense of entitlement you are experiencing should be dismissed with extreme prejudice.
im glad someone has the same opinion as me.
lol at the wording!
But yeah, I don’t think we should expect anything more than “better than before”
im just going to steal that, for whenever someone complains that an update wasnt that good
Ntm other than the fact that crates and cooks have been ahowcased in streams, they’re not final. At least in the sense that the trello board hasn’t added them to done. Let’s also not forget that we’ll be able to choose our own settlers soon enough, as well as our starting gear. Water can come later for all I care
I’d like to see a Radiant member confirm if I’m right or wrong.
Water part 2 and stairs were indeed part of the original Alpha 11 goal. We postponed this work in favor of fixing crashing bugs, memory leaks, and idle hearthlings. Once we’ve achieved a bit more stability, you’ll see an increased pace for new features.
It shows, the game runs smoother than ever. Thanks for focusing on this!
Definately a good route to take this time around. With the flood gates opened up to the Steam Community you guys will DEFINITELY find TREMENDOUS value in making the game readily available to as many users as possible. I speak in Agile terms of course
To add to what @albert said, there’s a big difference between setting a goal/aspiration (I’m going to lift this heavy object!) and making a promise (I promise to look at the bright side of things!).
Our word is important to us, so in case it wasn’t clear before, consider all the features we mention to be in the goal/aspiration category. It’s very hard to “promise” software features in a responsible manner; one stray comma lost amidst 1,000 json files may yet be the end of you.
Edit: Or one s at the end of a word, evidently. Many thanks to @Froggy and @yshan for the assist at the end of the stream.
