Hey there, just a couple of things I would like to see added to the game in the future.
The first thing I’d like to see added to future builds of the game is Pigs. Pork is a major food staple for some, and honestly I have a sister who loves pigs and would totally play the game if it had pigs in it.
Another thing I’d like to see is away to build doors inside mining tunnels. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I like to build underground stuff, such as my stockpile, and even my starting sleeping quarters. Also I haven’t been able to play the game much due to some bugs and don’t know if they have them but I’d love to be able to build more fire pits, and fire pits of different sizes.
One thing that annoys me is not being able to restore grassy areas to a grass look. Maybe I just haven’t found it but there is no grass blocks, so when I take out a goblin camp, or remove a building permanently, that area can never look like grass again.
My last suggestion for this little post for now is Trees and Berry Bushes. I’d like to see away to plant more tree and bushes, even if the saplings are only available from a merchant so players can’t abuse this.
That’s it for me for now. I love this game, its a refreshing look at the genre and I’d love to see it thrive, I’d also love a to play with my friends sometime, maybe build towns on the same map and work together or against each other. Good Luck Dev team.
Yeah, absolutely. Pigs are present in many many games, but hey they added poyos. I guess they have more animals in their mind
Doors are now “unattached items”, that means you can place them without starting a construction.
Grass blocks should definitely be added because of goblin camps or anything else. This could be really handy.
Berry bushes are considered as the poor food. When you develop your farms, you really don’t need these bushes. But for the decorations, that may be a good point.
Trees are available, you can plant them then let them grow
TR has said that they do not want to include all of the ‘normal’ farm animals found in most other games in Stonehearth. If I remember right, they said that they want Stonehearth to feel unique, and be a totally different world. I do believe boars are planned for hunting, though.
As Powerclank said, doors can be placed freely in the world. The wooden double door fits nicely in the tunnels.
I think they’ve said they’re looking for ways to fix this problem. You can always check the development trello board, which you can find right off of the main site.
Oak tree saplings can be grown and harvested by the Farmer, however they takes several in-game days to be able to be planted. At some point in some stream, or perhaps another forum topic, they have said they might make a way to ‘uproot’ berry bushes and move them around, but not replant them.
The geomancer will be able to recreate grass once its released and will be able to fix the holes by magically remaking grass/dirt when needed… we dont know what else the geomancer will be able to do however.
unless i missed something whilst i was away last weekend, that hasn’t been confirmed by TR yet… be careful what you say and/or promise…
if it still holds true to the kickstarter, the geomancer will be able to make some sort of little golems to aid you…
Thank you. I sadly only got to play the game while I was visiting a friends. He has a copy but I can’t afford one of my own, and its been a couple weeks. When I was playing on his computer there was no way to “drop” a door in the mines so his copy might not be up to date, he hasn’t had internet in awhile. Though Pigs are really cute and I would really like to see them even if they are called something else. Aside from my Step Sister really liking them, well… who doesn’t like bacon? It’s the most important food group.
Anyways, I’m happy to be a part of the forums even if I can’t play the game now for awhile. I am a great idea person and love giving suggestions. I have been a part of several major and a bunch of minor game development forums and alpha/beta testing groups and people always seem like like my ideas.
It’s been awhile since I played so I can’t remember if there was a multiplayer or not since we didn’t have internet for me to try, but if it hasn’t been brought up, it might be cool for players to run servers with their friends to all play on one map together.
Sorry for the double post but I totally just had another great idea. It just came to me.
The game allows you to zoom in on a character from the menu, view their stats and even change their name and job right? Well… what if we could take over that character, place the camera over the characters shoulder and control their actions in a sort of “control mode.”
In this mode, it would be as if you were a character in the game, playing from the third person view and able to swap your tools depending on your profession and perform tasks. While in this mode you could still issue orders to the crafters and even place buildings, but more over you could help with the construction by driving your character, or participate in combat by swinging the sword yourself. Heading into the mine and collecting raw materials on your own before depositing them in storage box, stock piles, or straight up taking them to a crafting table and making something, if your character has that job at the required level. I think being able to take over the life of one of your little people would be cool, and for all you out there who hate this idea, well, there would be nothing forcing you to use this mode.
i’m glad that you decided to join the more the merrier
though i’m probably wrong, i believe that TR has already said they wont be doing that kind of mode, as thats not really the style of game. and its a bit to micro-managey, where as the game is going for more of macro-management…
I feel like that at some faraway point, some year(s) after Stonehearth is released, TR could add some kind of a ‘story mode’ where you are given specific settings. Or perhaps mini missions that lets you take control of a specific character to do something. Maybe an entirely different mode to the game, that’s more RPG and less city-builder. Perhaps it could be an entirely new game, after Stonehearth’s done.
I think it’d be a good idea, and it’s a totally plausible game pathway. Offering no comparison, look at the Warcraft series - they started off with strategies and ended with a one-character player controlled game.
stonehearth 1 being what is currently in development.
stonehearth 2 being an RPG where you create a hearthling character and then go around and explore player created towns (made in SH 1) doings quests and stuff
Stonehearth 3 being a dungeon builder, rather then creating towns as an evil mastermind you now create dungeons full of monsters, and must protect it against heroes from SH 2…
however, most of that was just fan built (although tom mentioned the rough ideas) and is from over a year ago, so it probably wont happen…
I really miss playing this game. Wont be until January or later before I can buy my own copy through steam. Starting a new job kinda sucks, especially when you’re so far behind on bills. Keep me posted on whats happening in your games okay everyone?
That’d be kinda neat. It’d be a great way to expand on the story and lore of Stonehearth, although I’m sure there’s a lot that’s going to get fleshed out in the coming updates. Speaking of, has there been mention of in-game things that allow player’s to explore the lore?
And as an idea to add to what you said about the three games, just for fun –
Stonehearth 2 is a prequel to the entire series. You play as the major figures of the kingdoms - Cid, for The Ascendancy; Rayya, for Rayya’s Children; and whoever is going to be the Northmen’s Alliance figure (if they have one). This could be presented in a linear fashion, depending on what happens when. A two to three person multiplayer could be an option, where you control whatever faction in a sort of strategy game against one or both of the other factions.
For example, Cid is born/appears in a day and age where Brelor, the Crownless King, reigns supreme. Cid’s adventure is a quest to overthrow Brelor, and afterwards is apotheosized (like Talos from Skyrim.)
Rayya is perhaps an already-existing deity who possibly comes before Cid while Brelor is still in power. Her Children are perhaps under the worst state of control, and she has to save them from Brelor’s grip - and help them survive in the harsh Desert of Pal’Mum.
The Northmen could have an adventure that pays homage to some old Norse mythology - a war against a frost-giant type being having taken place long ago, with the Northmen’s ultimate heroes (something like Asgardians) eventually emerging victorious. The fight continues centuries later as the frost giants are woken from their slumber. This could be the more recent event that, when playing as the Northmen in Stonehearth 1, continues right where that left off.
Stonehearth 3 puts you in the role of Brelor, centuries after his defeat at the hands of Cid. Your ancient cult has reawakened you to wreak terrible havoc upon the world.
@sdee would be the best person to talk about lore with! I know there are plans to reveal more of the lore as the game goes on…I just don’t know what those details are .
Storage Running Low Notice. - Another player ran out of storage space, causing his Hearthlings to idle as they had no place to put new things. I think it might be helpful to add a small notice, not too annoying now, that would tell us that our storage space was running low. This might be a bit complicated as we can set specific boxes and areas for particular items. At times storage may be running out for stone block but not for food or other things. Another problem might be when you have a box capable of holding everything about to run out of space by placing a particular item that is also set somewhere else, yet the placement in that storage box will cause you to run out of space for everything else.
Sorry that was a bit complex, but I am sure you Dev guys could figure it out. A warning that storage is running low, and letting us know what products have no more space would be good.
Storage Highlighter. - Okay so this goes a long with the above, but I’d like away to see where I am storing what. To accomplish this, I was thinking that in the Town Inventory, we could include tabs that correspond to the icons in the storage. When the player selects the tab, every storage area that accepts said goods would highlight, just like it was selected in game normally, but it would take on a red glow instead of the usual white. Closing the town inventory would turn off the highlights. If the Tabs make things to complex for players, another way would be to select each item individually which could show which storage units could hold those items.
Land Restoration. - As part of construction, we often make floors to out buildings, or roads linking them. At times we make mistakes, and don’t catch them till our buildings are in progress or sometimes done. We remove them to correct the mistake, but like the goblin camps above, they leave a footprint. Correcting this with the building tools can cause problems, like texture collisions. I was thinking a great way to solve this would be to have any land disturbed by a building restored if the building is removed.
Well I have a couple more ideas but they have slipped my mind, I’ll be back to write more.
@Rezo2012 I would like this mode - but more for when the AI are not doing what I want them to “JUST FINISH THE D***** ROOF, I’LL DO IT MY SELF!!! GRR!” kind of thing, rather than… you know, wanting to play in first person, I get what you mean - and as nice as it sounds, I think it takes away from the core of what TR are trying to create with Stonehearth.
