Alrighty, so, I’ve noticed that my “Sheepasaurus Livestreams A Thing!” topic ( Sheepasaurus Livestreams Webcomic Stuff! ) does not have an alert or move to the top of the main page when I edit the first post, which I do because I don’t want to reply every time I have an update. My questions are, why is this set up this way, and what can I do to get around it?
edits have never given notifs… the fact it doesnt bump the thread is whats weird here.
Bumping. Bumping is the term i couldn’t think of there. Yeah, because, editing any other post bumps the thread, doesn’t it? Unless it’s only the last one that counts, I’ve never tested it.
When was your last edit? It definitely should reset the timestamp and thus “bump” the thread…
@jomaxro About an hour ago I believe. It’s still way down on the main page though, and was never bumped up.
Also, I’m not streaming quite yet, but would it be ok if I horrified gasp bumped the topic in the good old fashioned “jerk move” sort of way if I start streaming before this is worked out? I will delete the reply as soon as I finish, of course. (something about bumping a thread just feels illegal. it makes me feel bad )
the last edit to @sheepasaurusrex’s thread was about an hour ago. the thread at the top of fan media’s last post was 21 hours ago…
Hmm, I wonder if Discourse changed something…editing a post used to bump it, or maybe it only bumped it if there were no newer posts…
I just tried editing the post and the title, and neither of those actions bumped it…
editing a post still bumps the thread, but editing the first post (the start of the thread) doesnt bump it…

maybe it only bumped it if there were no newer posts…
[/quote]maybe… i never really payed attention…
I see…just tested that, and indeed it was bumped. Going to wait a few minutes and try editing SpagBolChomper’s post, see if that will bump it as well…
Edit: Nope, it seems that only edits to the most recent post have any effect on the timestamp…sorry!
Aw heck, thats what I thought it might be.
Oh wait, I had a sudden idea that probably won’t work. Is it possible to edit the first post in a… oh whats the term, closed? Closed discussion I think? Like, where it isn’t deleted, you just cant reply to it. Can you edit your own first post in those discussions by any chance?
Yes. You can edit posts in a closed topic.
The only type of topic that cannot be edited is an “archived” topic, but I don’t think we have ever archived a topic here on the Stonehearth Discourse.
Oh ok. I was wondering, can moderators delete replies? do you think that might be able to fix the issue? If it can, I figured closing the topic might be able to prevent it in a weird, roundabout sort of way, i guess.
(am I asking for too much by the way? I don’t want to be a bother to you guys)
Yes we can, however, my concern with this idea is that deleted posts are never “truly” deleted…we mods can always see them, and this can cause strange things with timestamps as well…but it is worth a try. Give me a moment…
Edit: OK, I have closed it and deleted all posts. Do you want to try an edit?
I will try that now. Thanks a ton for all the help by the way
Edit: it worked! sweet! thank you so much!
