The only report about broken portraits that I can think of is this one:
Here are some questions:
Does it happen if you start a new game? Or only in that savefile?
Do you have autosave enabled?
Have you tried to verify the game cache on Steam after reinstalling, or updating your graphic drivers from your manufacturer’s website?
