Poll: If Team Radiant had a focus for Alpha 10, should it be?

If multi-story buildings are coming in the next alpha, we need a pathfinding overhaul. If we don’t get this overhaul, I’ll build something that requires the AI to improve.

I need more furniture.

Can we possibly have a few more set pieces to spruce up our towns?

Gonna have to go with additional features. As much as I enjoy playing Stonehearth in its early stages with few bugs the point of an alpha is not to be bug free, it’s to get the features packed in. Beta is the time for smoothing out the wrinkles and finalizing features IMO.

The more bug fixing done and the less features added, the longer the overall process of finishing this game will be.

I moved 14 posts to an existing topic: Game insta crashes on start

There’s only two bug fixes I would want in an upcoming alpha release:

  1. Fixing the idle issue. Its a bit annoying when 95% of your villagers just start standing around doing nothing even when they are hungry. They might be able to fix this issue by adding a feature that allows the player to have more control over individual villagers or parties of villagers (such as making a party who is dedicated to mining and making another dedicated to building, etc).
  2. Fixing the Shepherd class so it stops freezing. As it is, the class might as well not exist so fixing this would basically add a feature.

They already announced multistory building.

Yeah I completely understand the necessity to fix the most crucial game breaking bugs, just not the part about fixing so many bugs it feels like a completed game - since it’s most certainly not. I just don’t like the idea that an excessive amount of additional effort going into bug fixing will slow down the overall final release of the game. Especially because each bug they fix could be reintroduced in a future build of the game after adding an additional feature. So sometimes it can feel like time wasted.

I think the best way to fix many bugs is adding specific features geared towards fixing bugs rather than having under-the-hood changes. So while I think they focus should be on fixing some of those bugs, I think it should be in ways that positively influence game-play in other ways.

I’d like to say “Add Features” and people would argue well yes, because it’s in Alpha. But if you just keep piling on features they will build upon bugs and incomplete code. Which will make debugging harder in the future.

I’m voting Fix Bugs.
Finish what you’ve started then move on.

Definitely bug fixes.

There’s enough content in the game already to have hours of fun. But I can’t because every once in a while the game will crash, or saves will stop working, or villager aren’t quite working how they should.

It’s SO CLOSE to being very playable that it’s frustrating that it’s not quite there yet.

I think Tom or Stephanie mentioned this fairly recently, but should Radiant spend their time fixing bugs in systems that may well have a major overhaul scheduled in, say, six months? This is just a general point mind you, not directed at your specific examples.

That’s a fair point, and probably a good basis for prioritizing what bugs get fixed. Something like;

  • Stability/save system bugs (highest priority)
  • bugs in finalized systems
  • bugs in systems with far off overhauls
  • bugs in systems that will be overhauled soon (low priority/don’t bother)

Bug fixes in temporary systems might seem like a waste, but they’ll help us understand what we do and do not like about a something. It’s harder to fairly judge a mechanic if it’s not working properly.

I vote fix bugs, like Error 210, so I can actually play normal mode.

Fixing Hearthling behavior! Sometimes they ignore you, pretend they have a different job, or just sit around and nearly starve to death.

a little bit late ^^ we have already alpha10 and 10.5 what you mean would be alpha11 xD

Ya my mistake, I thought i saw the game was in alpha but then i saw the post in the unread. so i thought maybe they would do another alpha 10 release for some reason? Anyway my mistake. Kinda embarrassing but worse things could happen xD

@SteveAdamo, perhaps we should close this thread and possibly start one either for Alpha 12 (since we have a pretty good idea what they’re aiming for in 11) or just in general? Or maybe just close this thread and wait for a while?

@Atralane Well since you already have a good idea on 11, I think you should close this and wait till alpha 11 is out to start talking about alpha 12. You wouldn’t want to start talking about an update that might not come out for a while.
