Writer's Workshop 3: The Wrath of Mer!

no worries… the deadlines for the finals was extended an extra day, since I kicked it off so late! :blush:

I’m afraid I’ll have to pass for this round. I’m going on holiday and I won’t have WiFi before Sunday, so I can’t post anything, nor can I post anything now as I haven’t written anything!

Best of luck to the other participants!

Finished! I decided to take the sneaky route and go for a character I technically introduced in the previous story–you’ll find out who when you read. The other is a new character–considering my tendency to return to Liyl for our sessions, though, I wouldn’t be surprised if I have both of them turn up again in the future. I also tried adding subtle nuances in the story…making ladders to free settlers, road curbs, stats references… just trying to go an extra step for authenticity.

I went for something a little more heartwarming than outright typical tongue-in-cheek humor to end the Workshop cycle. I guess it’s also fitting, considering we just recently had Valentine’s Day! :gift_heart:
I hope you enjoy.

Late entry has been posted! Woohoo!

Yes, I know it’s not about Kadash, but about two of the most beloved characters in the Map Game. This seemed like an opportunity too good to pass up on to write about those guys.

Hope you folks enjoy :smile:

Looks like i’m bowing out, fellas. No time to work on it this weekend, and no time at work to sneak in a story.

Looks like Mer Lighthands will have to find his necromancy book at a later time. :smile:

Now… i go to vote for the rest of you fine writers!

I’m very sorry I did not make a story for the last round, I went on a little trip for the weekend (the first trip I decided not to take my laptop) and I got back Monday 1:45 CST! :pensive: My apologizes to @SteveAdamo and everyone else in the Writer’s Workshop submissions. I wish good luck to everyone in the final round, and may the best writer win!

This should probably be moved to the Writer’s Workshop discussion thread. Calling @SteveAdamo

hey there @Zilla… no need to apologize! real life tends to interfere from time to time… :wink:

I also agree this can merge with the main discussion thread… but unfortunately I am stuck on my phone at the moment and can’t merge just yet…

Its a very interesting set of submissions.
When voting is over I’d really value detailed feedback on my entry, or whoever likes could already PM me about it. OFC I tried to write a win worthy submission, so how to improve my writing in the future is quite important to me!
So please let me know what you thought of my story and/or my writing style.

Huh. It seems like voting stopped really quickly this time around. Or is it just me?

agreed… odd that things might have slowed for the final round too… :confused:

Mmm, weird. Tried to drum up a bit of support in the map game threads / PMs… pity though.

Anyway, votes ATM:

@TurtleSquish - 5
@Teleros - 4
@PDanford - 2
@Atralane - 5
@Heilari - 2

Might need @SteveAdamo to be the tiebreaker if we don’t get more votes in :open_mouth: !

I hope this does not bode ill for the next workshop.

Yes it is true, I have consistently received 5 votes per round.

They don’t call me Five-Like-Turtlesquish for nothing…

Well then. I think we might have a unique title, @SteveAdamo.

Any ETA on the next one, @SteveAdamo? Or will it be a while again?

for this competition, likely “a while”, as we have another one that should “soonishly” be underway… :smile:

I think @SteveAdamo has been shirking his duties as the Official Radiant Fanboy in that he has not begun the next Writer’s Workshop!

It’s not that he’s been shirking duties. It’s that we had difficulty getting enough people to do it the last few times, plus there haven’t been enough updates that really change the settlement process. We’re still ultimately tied to building in (plains/forests/mountains) fighting (goblins/undead) with (footmen/town defense). Sure, we’ve had a few new classes added, but that’s not necessarily a ton of new ground to work with.

Personally, I think the best time to reopen the Writer’s Workshop is with the next biome update, since it’ll bring a definable change to the game’s setting.
