Windows and doors randomly going on adventures

Thanks for that save, @Jade_Elizabeth. While I still couldn’t find the root cause that gets items into this broken state (which is already present in your save), I’ve added a bunch of checks that will detect and fix it when it does happen. Loading your save from that thread in the next release will finish placing all the windows without leaving any holes.

Thanks heaps Max! I’ve been working my ass off all day trying to replicate the window holes and I just can’t do it. None of my old templates have trouble, no new ones, I just can’t seem to get a single hole even when the inventory and market place have discrepancies which is fantastic news!

The berry bushes, however, are still vanishing after being planted. I planted like 20 before it happened, I thought perhaps it was their orientation but it doesn’t seem to always be the case. Technically since I’m in the desert I’m planting pear cactus but berries and pear cactus are the only one’s it’s been happening with. I am not sure if it’s happening because of closeness to other objects OR if it’s something wrong with loading saves or growth states. All I know is I come back and my row of whatever has lots of missing plants that were little lumps of dirt before.

I will let you know if inside objects are vanishing causing those negative numbers on builds later when I place furniture, but for now I think it’s pretty safe to say it’s fixed!!

Edit: By the way could it be the goblins breaking them? They break their way through doors of unbuilt buildings causing them to have to be replaced and it impacts the furniture count…could that have broken the windows?

We had been using the savefile / building template from those Steam reports to try to reproduce this, I’d swear I answered one of those .
But the bug doesn’t always happen, so we’ve had trouble to reproduce this.

Thanks for reporting all these ideas, any hint might lead us to one instance of the bug. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hopefully with these fixes it won’t happen again, but we’ll see.

Yup, I’m able to repro this one! This appears to be a growth issue, rather than a placement one. It was reported on another thread, which I wasn’t able to repro then, but I’ve got a lead now.

I’ve tested that one, but couldn’t repro it, and monsters will only attack doors, not windows (aside from smashing arbitrary items in stockpiles, but those I’ve verified to be working correctly).

Ok, plants disappearing on growth is fixed for next release. You were right - changing their orientation while they are all next to each other was the way to trigger the issue.

Thanks heaps guys keep up the good work

Hi there, I’ve seen some posts on buildings that won’t complete, unplaceable beds, people unable to craft items and houses failing to match the template. I’ve run into all of these issues and I think the cause is the goblins that attack your stockpile. More specifically, the items and resources that they destroy are not being removed from the pool of items that the contruction and placement menus are calling on to complete tasks, and when your hearthlings try to retreive the item attached to the ID in question, they can’t because that item no longer exists.

I started noticing buildings like this one with missing parts:

However if you enter the building mode the part is plainly there.

A building with missing lamps

That show up in the build mode.

I started wondering what was going on and then I started placing beds. At the time I had 10 comfy beds but only 9 would ever place. I could have sworn I saw the goblins destroy one but the town inventory assured me the bed was fine. Turns out the town inventory is wrong.

The town inventory claims we have one undeployed comfy bed. (The one destroyed by the goblins)

The placement inventory claims we have one undeployed comfy bed. (The one destroyed by the goblins)

Try as we might we will never be able to place the bed. The workers seem aware it’s destroyed. They will idle instead of placing it.

Tired of what I assumed to be an unreachable item I couldn’t locate I tried to sell it. The sale inventory on the other hand seems COMPLETELY aware that the item no longer exists.

The crappiest thing about this bug is that the missing ID is never removed from the list. It can be called up over and over and over again.

I suspect that this error is at the heart of a lot of the problems that people are getting and whatever the sale list is doing right, needs to be reflected in the other lists. Btw, it’s a real shame in a way that the sales list is getting it right though, it means I can’t even sell off the offending items but at least it paints a clear picture of what the problem is.

Lol I thought this was so well written I just posted it myself!

Oh hey you saw me post it on the steam boards eh? lol. Ty. Oh hey and ty for crediting me man.

I think in the cases of the missing objects sometimes hearthlings undeploy them because they’re on a building site. I watched them take out a chest (part of the template) so they could build a ladder…resulting in it never finishing. The ghost was not there still either and when I manually placed it it didn’t help (and worse they removed it because it’s a build site).

Thanks for the detailed report! Unfortunately, goblin attacks don’t seem to be the cause. I’ve tested both the smashing version and the stealing one with various configurations of stored, deployed, and in the process of being deployed items, and they properly remove the items from the menus in all cases. So still looking for a repro for this bug.
