Know how if you’re digging down in a mine, you sometimes have to wait awhile before someone can build a ladder down to get people out? This is a nice solution to that. As the bottom is mined, the elevator is able to lower further without other support. No more will hearthlings die because you forget about them in the mine.
Another bonus: it’s another thing for the Engineer to do.
On the programming side of this, I’m sure it’s incredibly difficult to do all of the math and collisions and things, especially with how difficult the stairs apparently were. I assume, for people using it, they’d queue it and step on when they’re able, where the elevator will take them off and reactivate their walking.
I’m thinking something like this, by the way.
