Shiny Shaderss?

Having had a look at the Trello board recently, “Support for Shiny Materials” is marked as done

Has this made its way into the game in any form? Is water reflective?!? Am I simply missing out because of my dated hardware? I have to use baby graphics options for normal gameplay (no AA or ambient occlusion  )

I guess those are the zombie glowing eyes and the gold shinies.

Hmmm… that’s a good enough reason to look at how the zombie eye glow’s been done… Perhaps this weekend, I’m absolutely swamped with work :frowning:

good thing for you then I already looked into it .
You can give shiny shaders to a specific color in a object. Basicly you add something to the json file of the object and you need a file where you specify the colors (the ones you want shiny).

Oooh that’s great! Perfect for Torches v3! I was trying to implement all of the glowing effects with particles and lighting

Yeah, It will work great for that torch. Looking forward to v3.

I second that. I have not seen any reflections in the video.

Yes. At first I thought that what was seen in the video were reflections, but no, it must be just normal casted shadows… (which I can’t even see on my computer, since I have low graphic settings like @phector2004)

I believe the shiny shaders were meant for steel-like materials, to give them some sort of a reflection.

Just wanted to revive this rusty old thread, see if anyone can polish it up by filling us in on how to implement shine and/or glow effects

I had tried to get some glowing palette colours way back when I was working on Torches but couldn’t figure it out and gave up on my plans. (I also had very important real-life stuff to deal with so Torches kinda got pushed aside indefinitely…)

I’m currently brewing a new mod and wanted to see if anybody’s sorted this out by now.

You will see shiny lamps on this year’s Candledark mod =)

I think currently they are only used for the zombies eyes.

I believe @not_owen_wilson used the shiny shaders for the ore bars.

You can find glowing in the campfire, in the lamps, and in the zombie eyes.

You can find particles in the campfire and in the lamps.
