Summary:
Selling lots of the same item to a merchant (like 200+ items) causes a lag spike and what I think is multiple audio ques. Also, selling tree saplings like that (in particular) plays a sound like (I think) chopping down a tree.
Steps to reproduce:
Create several farms which produce trees (like 6).
Wait until you have 200+ trees in your inventory.
Use a Merchant to sell your trees and observe the slowdown and strange audio.
Expected Results:
Quickly subtract items from your inventory and increase gold.
Actual Results:
Game slows down drastically and audio plays strangely.

So I thought I’d do some testing, here is a village - well a collection of fields and placed objects - that I made to test this out.
There are 50 farms and about 15 farmers.
I have 1500 saplings in storage all you have to do is call a merchant and sell them to see what happens
Well, I’ll be quite honest here - I’ve never tried to farm large numbers of trees and then sell them! Going to ping @yshan to see the above save, as she’s done a lot of the trader work.
Heh, its a simple way to make money - farmers just constantly pump out trees. They only sell for 2g, but that’s better than stone (1g) and it all happens automatically. And when you have 2-300 tree saplings, that sells for 4-600g : ). I think they used to sell for 14g, but I could be mistaken.
Ha, I didn’t even check, but good idea. This practice just came about from needing lots of trees and then no longer needing them - but still having lots of nursery farms. Started selling them and making tons of money.
One benefit of using trees is that there is no chance of messing up your queues of construction if you sell your entire stockpile - even if you have trees scheduled to be placed, thankfully it is ‘place a non-descriminant tree here’ rather than ‘place this exact tree here’, so there are never errors. But then if you did flowers, I imagine it would just pause construction… yeah, I’ll have to see what is worth the most.
