True dat. I’ll probably ask him about it anyway, just to make sure we have no hard feelings, who knows? I might get his help!

I whole heartedly support any and all bardic mods =D

Perhaps midi? or something similar?
This brings to mind something in mabinogi(another game). Players could compose their own songs using MML(Mabinogi Music Language) which the game would interpret into midi notes and play for everyone to hear.
… I have no idea if Lua can do that sort of thing

It would be really cool if each civilization had it’s own style of music/unique instruments.

I also think it would be cool to use older style instruments like lutes, pipe and tabor, fife, sackbut, etc etc

Ah, midi and lua… I have something for you.

I’m just waiting for something more precise than `stonehearth:gameloop` and a pitch for `radiant:play_sound`…

Starbound uses the abc notation for their instruments. I guess it might be easier to implement and synchronise than midi. Although they use wav files for the instruments, not a midi output (to my knowledge).

I liked the system of music in mabingi. With the singing they implemented recently it is almost perfect. Although it sounded awful (only level F 😃 ).
If someone could implement that into stonehearth, that would be wonderful.

I’m not sure exactly what I’m looking at here ^^; It sounds… interesting?

Midi uses something similar to abc notation.
Basically, midi tells when and how hard to hit the note, and how long to hold it out. It wouldn’t be too hard to hook that into some .wav files to make it sound better. Actually, that is what VSTi does.

Me too, for the most part, some things about it were frustrating, like composition.
I raised all my music ranks to 5 or 6 (and had complete bottle set, and an almost complete handbell set) by the time I drifted away from mabi. Which was before singing was implemented. Did they try to emulate words? or did they just do oohs and aahs?

Just oohs and aahs 😄. But you are really rocking if you do a perfect one. I drifted away too, but log in sometimes to check the updates.

I’ve been kind of thinking about this idea in general. My own idea would be to have a secondary class, that I call hobbies, so that you wouldn’t have dedicated musicians but would do things when they were not doing there primary job (class).

The thing boils down to performers and audience. You have a performer doing the action and the audience is receiving the buff. I was going to have hobby trees that were similar to class trees but for performers of various types. Musicians, artists, storytellers, astrologers and the like…

It’s my own opinion but take it for what it’s worth…I think ideas are the important thing right now. Bouncing ideas off other people thinking about ways to approach it. Everyone kind of does their thing…and the game starts to get tighter and the mod API comes online and the mods start to take shape then I think people should start joining together and using the best ideas to make the best mods. Some people will want to go different directions and that’s cool, but the better ideas (and the better work as some will do the work and some will just dream of doing the work) will probably rise to the top.

midi is much more complex than abc, not just format/protocol-wise but also regarding timing and other control commands. It’s a very old format after all - and originally meant for hardware, not necessarily hardware per se.

You know why I love this idea? Because me and Steve were talking about this same thing back in May. You have my vote mate 🙂

> I love the Scout, Adventurer and Cartographer ideas! They could not only provide information on monsters but also on resources nearby. Great thinking, love the imagination!
>
> I posted elsewhere about an **Artistry** Class chain; maybe I could elaborate on here. One of three class chains I would love to see would be an Artistry class that begins with an **Artist** who can paint textures and designs to make your city look more interesting but can be upgraded to a musician who could play music and increase worker speed within a certain radius. Get together more **Musicians** , each with a different instrument (drum, violin, guitar, harp, flute, etc) and they will become a ‘band’ whose radius increases substantially. With a big enough band on a stage/park in the centre of the city, it could boost worker speeds by say 2-5% and help the city become more vibrant with different artists in different places. This could also tie into the **Cartographer** class.
>
> The idea of holding a festival could bring in randomly generated and temporary NPC’s who help bring in trade and boost the economy. Likewise, a class of **Shopkeepers** who can upgrade from **Restaurant Owners** to **Innkeepers** to **Bartenders** for taverns. Between artists and shopkeeps, it could open up a whole area of trade for not only randomly generated NPC’s but also **Travellers**.
>
> **Travellers** would be a class of people you could create who would travel to other people’s games and come back with new items. You would give them an item to trade (maybe a resource or certain amount of money or something new you’ve created) and they would take it away randomly to a different player’s game where they would trade it. This class would tie in with Shopkeepers and they could stand in taverns and festivals with a bubble over their head suggesting they have something to trade.
>
> These **Travellers** could also be upgraded to **Seafarer’s** who would be equipped with a treasure map that would send them out to sea to bring back either jewels, resources, armour, nothing, or die trying. On the other side, they could be upgraded to **Thieves** who could steal from other player’s games but would not be able to do so in a city that was well patrolled and protected.
>
> Three very intertwined class trees I think but as usual, I think I’m getting carried away here…

But then again, I’m very biased 😁

Nice to see people are still interested 😛 I went on a looooooong-ass vacation and thought everyone had moved on 😃

I’m about to get my greedy little hands on the Stonehearth edition of Qubical, so I should be uploading so models soon, probs going to be a guitar, as I know how to play it 😛

What kind of music would YOU guys like to see me put in? I was thinking classical music, some celtic stuff, a little rock maybe(?), and jazz at some point. So please let me know so I can look up some songs!
