i have gone in on the character page and paused everything but mining, then all the characters do is sit around the fire and nothing else other than eat and sleep. i can have it set like that for several days and that is all they will do. every once in a while after a couple of days they will mine a little and that is it.
Do they have acess to it ? is it too high ? Is the zone you want to mine is “suspended” ?
You can also try to remove the zone you want to mine and remake it. ^^
That’s what i do when it seem to happen to me.

It may also just need a few ladders up to it, where ever it is. The ‘next block’ needing to be mined, could be stopping the whole group because they need a ladder to get to it
