I think that it would be really cool for when I pause and leave my computer the player camera would zoom in and pan on one of the hearhtlings of my town doing a task or just idling and every few seconds the camera would rotate to another hearthling. I really do think this would give the game a lively feel.

This reminds me of the start screen of Animal Crossing games 
The thing is that when you pause the game, everything stops, the hearthlings don’t move so they don’t continue with their tasks 
Although panning the camera would still be nice.

agreed… that would actually look pretty slick, sort of Matrix-esque, panning around the settlement, capturing the units in mid action …
