Version: Release-453 (x64)
Platform: Windows 10
CPU: AMD FX-8350 (8-core, 4GHz)
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 270X

Specialists ignore workbench tasks in favor of worker tasks.

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Give Hearthlings specialist jobs.
  • Advance the game until you’ve got over 16 Hearthlings (# is approximate)
  • Queue up workbench tasks.
  • Queue up large worker tasks, such as relocating a large storage zone, or placing more than a dozen items within a very short duration of time.
  • Observe workbench tasks being deprioritized in favor of worker tasks.
  • Savegame: Link

End result:
Important workbench tasks such as crafting storage containers, fence gates or other defensive items go ignored for potentially large stretches of time.

I can confirm. Even with only the initial hearthlings, I’ve seen my mason and capenter go building when they had items in queue and materials.

Now to find a duplicate. Because I can’t believe that this hasn’t been reported before…

I’m not sure if it’s a bug, but allegedly crafters have crafting prioritized before other tasks…

I am seeing the same issue as well. It happened to me with only 7 hearthlings, and I would have a large list of materials for the carpenter, but he would instead be “paving” a road that I had requested built.

Yeah… it probably happened to me in the earlier game too, but it wasn’t as noticeable until the game got more complex with more simultaneous work to be done. In any case, glad to see I’m not alone on this one.
