The Many Adventures of the Kitty of Doom

It’s one down, but it did the exact same thing when it was at ground level - and then I couldn’t build on the exact same spot, so I had to sink it one to rebuild on the spot

hmm… well i guess i would suggest uploading the template over in this thread,

http://discourse.stonehearth.net/t/a14-a15-the-buildings-my-hearthling-will-not-build-thread/14704/45?u=8bitcrab

sorry i’m not of much help other then that…

It’s alright, Monsieur Crabs.

I’ve updated my game, but not much luck. I think I’m going to move back to the forest.
The islands have been an interesting challenge, but… I’m just a sucker for the woodlands.

The Mt. Forest Frontier - Starting Logs:

Wow, I am tempted to name this one the Redwoods of Redheads, I mean, look at this roster!

Why Mt. Forestry Frontier?

Because I have decided to try something new [and likely challenging!]

In case you can’t read it very well, that seed number is: 393186969

The world is at our feet, my children.

Let’s go get it!

TFF Day 1:

We’re carving into the side of the mountaintop, with the intent of making our first structure within it.

Supplies are being gathered from all of this level of the mountain.

And the first jobs have been assigned.
Though given the inability to hunt this high up, Kysh might be temporarily reassigned work…

He came all the way up here to give us a basket of berries, isn’t that sweet?

Our first sunset… it is quite the view.

That first error has been popping up every few minutes…

could you perhaps create a report for it over in the Bug Reports category.

So, in the spirit that these Expeditions are truly and uniquely doomed, game bloody game save files have all abandoned ship. Ahem, that is, after the newest update, for no apparent reason, the game has opted to not let me load any of my files, and is not even showing them despite them clearly being in the saved games folder.

I think I might do the unthinkable, and strip out all my mods before I try the next one.
I will greatly miss the extra food and crafting options, but I come to realize I don’t think I’ve actually played a vanilla game since the very first one the night the game was gifted to me…

…making an exception for the terrain colour slabs, holes in my world annoy me way too much.
And technically debug tools…

Truly doomed! One of my friends gifted me a game I had been following its entire development, Stardew Valley, so I’ve been obsessed with that all week - hence my absence. Hehe, sorry!
But I see there is a new release at last, so I very much want to break into it!

This is the story of…
…a brave [and perhaps slightly foolish] band of settlers from The Ascendancy, a prosperous and industrious kingdom [with a few leader type figures of questionable sanity that they wish to ship away].
Seeking new lands and adventure [and possibly their doom], they set off to Darkmoor Forest, a location that is sure to be an inspiring place to start anew. [Just ignore all those eyes watching us from the shadows!]

Leader’s notes: Tigre: Farmer/Chef - Altross: Herbalist? - Ishi: Mason - Rowen: Guard
Ky’Tenne: Carpenter - Lorzen: Trapper? - Shu: Farmer

…and my game crashed while I was tabbed away. Seriously, living up to my name of Kitty of Doom…

Okay, trying this again, so same blah blah blah as above, up until the roster, which we shall replace wiiith…

The Leader’s scribbled notes: Rose: Herbalist - Lujang: Carpenter - Hazumu: Guard - Ishi: Mason - Yumi: Trapper? - Till: Worker/Smith - Katrina: Farmer/Chef

Day 1:

The great leader has given us starting orders before we even had time to fully get our bearings after the long journey.
Including:

Camp being “properly” established

Lujang being given the carpenter’s saw, and Yumi the hunter’s knife (if with great hesitation)

Instructions to clear the entire island to start preparing for construction.

An Ancient One in the nearby cliffs! We must make an objective of heading that way, so we may give it proper respect!

Why, hello little furry ones…

Why build a bridge, when we can TUNNEL!

Oh me oh my, the leader forgot to assign the carpenter any actual work to do! This won’t do at all!

MUCH better!

Gifts!

…not the greatest of gifts, but, yay, gifts!

Promotion time!

Congrats, Kat!

Now get to work at it!

[quote=“Kat, post:1, topic:20687, full:true”]
:unamused: [/quote]

Speaking of congratulations;

Good job, Lujang! Keep up the hard work!

Ah, an excellent spot for the starting gardens, Kat! What have you done there?

Excellent plotting; now, get to planting!

Wow, congrats AGAIN, Lujang!

See, this is why I gave you so many orders!

Night is fall on our first day of the new venture…

A caravan!

Hmm… well, yes, that seems like an excellent trade! Lujang will simply have to make another hoe!

Speaking of, you are just the busiest bee, aren’t you, Lu?

Guys, seriously, can’t you clean up after yourselves? How are we supposed to build like this?
Well, seeing the island is still a mess…

The sun rises on a new day…

Well, one lousy semester and half a hectic one later, I have reinstalled the game and updated to 17, largely because the update notes fished me back in! So, seeing I don’t have my save games anymore, time for yet another new start! …good thing I actually kinda enjoy starting new? >.>

For this colonial attempt, we’re sending our Ascendancy victims volunteers to the recently discovered Anorien mountains (By @Vargbane) , as the area caught our leader’s eye.

(Our leader was slightly disappointed at the lack of a mountain sketch from our scouts, and has sworn to doodle one during her next lecture class)

After scouring several scout reports, our leader has decided on this spot:

Which, in person, looked like this:

Lovely, yes?

And who are our brave settlers that will be founding Nachtal? Meet the crew!

Nachtal, Day 1:

-Lokun prompted to Carpenter

-Altros prompted to Trapper

A kind man brought us some food!

Work on carving out the valley to our liking began.
As has actual carving - our carpenter has begun his tireless working on wooden goods for our community, starting with a basic bed for each civilian, a weaver’s spindle to promote someone to that craft, and some swords for protection.

And so our weaver has taken up her craft!

As the sun sets, everyone has been assigned their bed;

(What a cool feature!)

Nachtal, Day 2:

Today is off to a fast start, with new promotions!

Leira has taken the mason’s chisel

Tigre has set off to start up a farm to feed the community

…I got distracted…
Not to say anything bad happened, really, I just kept playing and stopped logging it, haha. Maybe I should do a recording or some-
-eyes webcam-
-gulps-
…I just need to keep better track of what I’m doing -nod-

Dammit, people have to go liking on my goofy posts and make me want to do another one…

honestly, I’m extremely glad that people did. I’ve only just stumbled across this thread now, and… WOW, does it bring back memories.

Not of my own expeditions – I intentionally held off playing Stonehearth as long as I could (until that darn Steam sale and its cruel joke of putting Stonehearth into a bundle with like 4 other games I wanted)… this thread reminds me of a far earlier time (or at least, like, 3+ years now; that’s basically as long as I’ve been online), on another forum with another game altogether; back before Youtube LP’s were the most common format of sharing stories like these…

So, many of my fondest memories of my early introduction to that community were taking part in threads just like this one, with “photo diaries” of the reports coming out of newly settled townships and castles and so on. Back then, it was up to the author to explain the narrative of what was happening, since a few screenshots couldn’t do what video can. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but some of these epics stretched to thirty+ pages of text… Even then, the number of YouTube videos appearing on the forum was out-pacing this particular storytelling medium; but it felt like a kind of golden age of storytelling.

Anyway, yeah, awesome stuff. The way you evoke the story, and write yourself into it, is just wonderful to read. Aside from how much I love Stonehearth, I also fancy myself a writer (a videogame writer, no less; given that my only writing “job” to date is within that arena)… and this thread impresses me both as a player and a wordsmith.

If you can find the time and motivation to continue, I can guarantee you’ll have an audience. That said, I know how projects like this tend to grow… unwieldy. I literally have a pile of hand-written reports I’ve been saving up from years ago in that other game, always meaning to submit them eventually for the edification and education of other town planners… whatever you do with these skills, I really hope you continue practicing your various creative crafts. This community is a brighter place for your having shared them
